I dont think that early of the month for any activities... anyway the kids still too young to take care of themselves in the new environment....

Most of the activities are for std 2 onwards..... so far no notes from my son school...

Sister already join choir and some dancing classes...

As far as I am aware, the common practice among schools has been for the kids (Std 1) to bring back a list of available activities for the parents to select. My kid has not received any such list yet. I was told that there was a list pasted on the window of the guardhouse at the main gate but not sure whether it is for 2009 or 2010.

As far as my kid is now concerned the only activity he wants to do for his weekend is go to Toys R Us - he says he needs a change of "scenery"

currymee...i couldnt agreed more...i was so worked up during the 1st week of school !

By the way, I also realised that Book#2 is not in the book list and my girl has told me she needs 2 of book #2 next week. Any idea if the book shop in Lick Hung is open on Saturday ?

Just let your daughter to buy on her own. Teach her how to buy. That's what I did for my daughter... she will say scare, but she can do it. Remember to praise her after she has done it... everything has to have first time.

For your information, each book is 60 cents.

The Lick Hung bookshop is run by:

    Kuo Liang Book House
2, Jalan 12/152, Taman Perindustrian O.U.G, Batu 6, Off Jalan Puchong, Kuala Lumpur, 58200 Wilayah Persekutuan
    Tel: 03-7782 3337
    Fax: 03-7782 7280

You may want to give them a call, but I don't think the bookshop will be open on weekends due to "low business traffic"

I agree on that aspect as that was what one of the teachers told me. So, everyday, I give my son RM1- and told him, if any exercise book is not there, go and buy and the cost is 60cents and he should have 40cents change. Let him start buying one book first (if you want to start slow)

Thanks currymee. I've called them but they dont keep stocks of Lick Hung exercise books in office. So, back to square one, I still need to buy them from the school's bookshop...

Ituuuu lahhhhhhhh.... I was teaching my son the value of money and how to buy things when he was 5 years old by giving him the exact change to buy me a news paper.... I stand outside and wait... some time later RM1.50 and ask for change with some simple calculation.... coming weekends, I am teaching them Gin Rumi

We cannot be over protected to our child for their own good....

How many of your kids know how to wash their plate after dinner ?
Wash their shoes and apply the white wash?

Try giving her the exact money in a sealed envelope with the instruction and ask her to go to the book shop and give to the boss.

Yup hubby was on leave today & went to school to show her where the bookshop is. I plan to give her 0.60 tomorrow and ask her to buy an exercise book & bring home to show me...good to start training them to be indpt (and hopefully, sense of responsibility) from young.

I heard from neighbour that school extra/out-of-classroom activities only begin in std 2, anyone could confirm this ?

My son also did not mention about any activities outside school hours or Sat/Sun.

He did mention that starting today, the teachers will start to ROTATE their seating positions in class. I told him not to purposely choose the back and play there with his friends instead of studying !! (pre-empt warning in case he comes up with those ideas !! - my son got 101 tricks in his head )
