When I read currymee's last few posts, I cannot help but to smile. I have to give him credit for trying even though his chances of succeeding is virtually nil. He is also a slow learner of SJKC politics . Why do I say that?

I hope by now, after 3 years, currymee would have realised and understood that the school HM and members of the school PIBG committee are old-style Chinese educated teachers, Chinese style businessmen and MCA-type politicians. For those who are familiar with and went through the SJKC education system, one of the key values that are drilled into the children and stayed with them until they are old, is that one should never question or make the elders lose face.

Unfortunately, currymee has not learned this vital lesson from the last round of discussions on PIBG issues. I don't blame him as I know he is sincere in wanting to improve the school and his suggestions and ideas are some of the better ones. From what I have read of his posts in various threads, his approach reflects his English education and thinking which is more open, outspoken, liberal and confrontational. This is an almost direct contrast to the HM and PIBG committee members' education and "Chinese" political style of doing things.

Therefore, it does not surprise me one little bit if all his good intentioned messages and requests to the school management and PIBG committee were not only ignored but treated with disdain. As far as these gentlemen and ladies running Lick Hung were concerned, currymee has shown them great disrespect and cause them a great loss of face. Any acknowledgement and acceptance of his ideas and requests will be seen as a "loss of face and prestige" to them. That is a shame but that is the sad truth and reality.

This was what I had advised currymee in the past and now I am repeating again

Currymee, please read your emails. I have emailed you a few reading materials.

    Fong,

I am also from 'old-styled Chinese education' and I think I probably older than many of those in the LH PIBG committee including the HM !!

Anywhere, I understand where are you coming from and I think you are close to the underlying cause.

There is always a key 'universal' reason for such defensive attitude !!

But I think I should not say it in a public forum.

KAUTIM, DONE, report card taken , settled - teacher asked what are my plans to help my son to improve his BC performance ? I said let him watch more TVB and Astro Wah Lai Toi (in Mandarin, of course )

She got a stunned look but I said, his BM improved because of Astro Ceria and English improved because of Cartoon Network, so ..... and I said it with a STRAIGHT SERIOUS FACE !!

Hehehee .... I wonder what the teacher must be thinking of me ....

Hahahaa (I laugh in bewilderment !!) .... a father just related to me earlier the meeting he had with his daughter's class teacher on her performance in last exam early this morning.

He said he asked the teacher about her daughter's overall performance, the teacher glanced at her results and remarked, "It is normal for all of them to drop in Std 3 and 4 and usually all will pick up again by Std 5 and 6 just before UPSR" I asked what kind of an answer is that ? . He said he was also too shocked to reply and just nodded.

Aiyiyo .... don't tell me the kids are going to continue getting "slaughtered" in the exams ... they will be totally demoralised come Std 6 !!!

For Std 1, just set a reasonable target above 85% or 90% for every subject. That should be achievable by most students. In fact, a lot of them will be whacking in 95% + for Std 1, so don't freak out. One boy in my son's calss in Std 1 used to score 100% for all subjects , so go figure, even in Std 3, now all above 90% !! It is all down to how you set up your expectations and targets for your child.

As for past papers, please note that your child is doing the KSSR syllabus for Std 1. Unfortunately, I don't have any KSSR papers, only the old KBSR syllabus. PM me your email, and I will email you whatever I have got for Std 1.

Use their current exercise as a guide until we get the papers. In fact, notice in Std 3, exams questions is not exactly the same as in exercise even for bina ayat (BC & BM) and particularly karangan.

My son's first time also...I am trying to get the pass year paper from my friend, her son in std2 this year...will let you know once I got it.

I have been giving my son some DST activity book to practise and found out he totally couldn't answer computer related questions! He can't understand the questions and answers cos quite hard. He can only read simple Chinese cos he couldn't read nor write until Dec last year. Tough! :-(
