My daughter complained that the food is not nice... hahaha. Imagine she is someone of not choosy on the food, yet still complain the food is not nice. What say you?

    Birdy,

I am just putting up whatever info that I have and know BEFORE I accidentally "sau-kau-po-chee" them physically and mentally

I have decided not use Facebook, as I wish for the thread to be OPEN to all and discussions can also be held among other parents and not just me. I am just doing what you might call "kick-start" the Support Group Q&A "mini-forum".

This thread belongs to ALL PARENTS and not just me.

As for the canteen food, my son tried some items during the Orientation and decided that packed lunch/biscuits is the way to go for him. So, he now insists on a full lunch before school and snack during recess. Good thing is when he comes back for dinner, he is like a ravenous tiger devouring everything, hahaha .... no matter how "bad" the dishes are ...

Personally, I have not tasted any of the items since parents cannot go in during recess ! So, have to take my kid's words and taste judgement on quality.

Just a little input here from a parent of an ex-LH student...

Yes, my girl never liked the food there from the start...so I packed snacks ( sandwiches / cookies ) for recess time..( 20 mins break ).

When she had to stay back for extra classes ( year 5 onwards ), we actually sent food from home or took her out to makan at the shops nearby.
Infact, we took turns with one of her classmates` parents to send lunches on alternate days basis, when she did her std 6 last year...Was a chore but we weren`t the only ones doing that...The year went by quite fast..

Food in most schools will not be yummy ( least to say healthy ) so if we can spare the time and effort, we either cater or we send the food ourselves. So..start making friends with some dedicated parents from the same class and have some amicable arrangements on lunch runs..it helps...alot!!

When my kids where there, it was a common feature to find little hand-carry bags (with name of student and class name attached) sitting on the canteen bench. These were lunch packs sent by parents and car-pool aunties. This is sepecially useful during the final years when the students have extra classes to prepare them for the final exams.

There are also nuggets, hotdogs, fishball on a stick.... bread (60cents) and vitagens (90cents)... what my son bought on the first day.... some times he brought biscuits or bread from home... usually untouch.

Last year I heard from my daughter.... even got pizza... shared by few students! Bought at the pagar

Guess kids nowadays are picky about their food due to the parents giving them nice things to eat... including me I remember my time was bread either kaya or jam... from std 1 to form 3! yuck!

Alternative, since std 1 and 2 is afternoon, buy some kuih2 or those "special" bread (kaya/butter) for the kid's snack or some mee/fried rice/mee hon from outside in the morning for them to bring along.

This is the SJKC Lick Hung school website: (I think the info is a bit dated but still relevant)

I am trying to see if there is an English/BM version for the benefits of non-Mandarin savvy parents like me

Latest Info for Standard One parents - 2010 class

Exercise Book #2 - required but not in booklist

For whatever reason, the exercise books that we have bought based on the Standard One booklist has OMITTED exercise book #2 (need about 2 copies), which I have checked is required by the BM class teachers in already some of the classes.

There is nothing to complaint about the food in the canteen. Its fixed food and the food that makes tonnes of monies to the canteen operator. I had just posted one thread.

It is good to have a Q & A Support Group. BUT..... what else can we do besides just exchange gossip on whats happening around the school? Is there any move or action from the forumer here to resolve the problem? If not, the problem still exist. Is there any possiblities to resolve the problem by talking to the PIBG or the headmaster? Did the headmaster know that there is such a group of people infront of the computer screen discussing about what is happening at Lick Hung? I am really concern on what is happening and what is going to happen to the next generation.

I got a feed back from my kids and a relative, the variety is more, portion is more and cheaper. All of them happy... smiling... my daughter had a hot dog with long bread at RM1 today. Hamburger at RM1.20. Mee Siam big bowl at RM1, a stick of 2 Nugget RM1, French Fries a (regular) cup RM1, a stick of 3 fish ball RM1....3 dishes with meat and rice for RM1.50 each (2 person).

The canteen was bid via tendering and had experience with secondary school.
