It all depends on the school HM. Sometimes yes and sometimes no, parents will be notified IF they are required to go to school to collect the report cards. Most of the time, it will be "no"

Note: My son's class teacher mentioned that school report card for the last exams will be given out AFTER the school holidays. As expected, my son retained his top 10 position in class, still the same no change in position. He was a bit disappointed as he did not "go up" but I told him, to look on the bright side that he did not "fall down" !!
BIG BIG SIGH!! after reading this, asked son yesterday whether he knows his position in the class. Guess what, he said the teacher did announce but didnt hear his name being called, thus dunno what is the position.....HAIZ, mayb last in the class, so too afraid to tell me...so that he can at least enjoy the week break before the mommy breaks him

Hopefully, that would change. These are words from my son who graduated long time ago and who didn't think of Lick Hung that way.
He said he had lots of fun learning chess, playing in chess competitions, learning the diablo ( the Chinese Yoyo) and saw the school as
a great venue exposing young children to lots of activities like orchestra, 24 drums, dance, etc.
He said no doubt there were lots of homework, but Lick Hung gave students a strong foundation to move forward ..
.. I sensed that he was thankful to have studied in Lick Hung. He had great memories with his friends, and see competition as fun.

I too think that the school does provide opportunities and exposures to interested students.. u just need to open your ears and eyes and
    be participative.

This is NOT STRICTLY ACCURATE as the students are SELECTED by class teachers to take part. Students who are interested but not in the top 10 or top 20 (depending on competition) of class are usually denied the opportunities to do so. Taking part in competitions/events is seen as a kind of "reward" for doing well in exams.

Both your children and fRaNkY's kids are obviously in the top end of the class academically, so they will get the chances and exposures and in fRaNkY's kids case, a cupboard full of trophies to boot as well !! While my son always get selected as well, I know that he did not enjoy them as his good friends (who are in class positions 30s and 40s) were never allowed to take part. The teacher always said they are not studying well so cannot take part. He always felt "alone" when taking part in these competitions and events and asked me if it is OK for him to say "no" to the class teacher in the future since his friends are not taking part. I told him just go ahead and say "no" POLITELY to the class teacher.

As far as I know, only the top school kids love Lick Hung (20-30%), those who are average in performance and don't do so well regard it as "KID'S HELL on Earth" with all the homework, exams, scoldings, rotan etc ... !! Whenever I ask them about school, I get the "crucifix" cross signs shown to me !!

As far as i see it, the teachers will push the selected brighter ones higher, as they know these kids can do it and will do well in additional tasks. These kds, like mine also hv to stay back and the teachers hv to train them, in certain competitions.

How can asked students struggling with studies and hw to join these competitions? Nanti parents complaint lagi at chow kei or in usj.com

Your kids hv every rights to reject offers. Daughter is slowing down this year due to upsr.

Some of these activities are like resume for them, for use when selecting schools or etc. In the future.

Children gets peer pressure to, especially those they mix with. To be one of them, for the to be accept as one of them, is difficult.

Son is playing bafminton and all his friends are using racquet rm300 to rm500! So he is pressure too but after i explain to him he dont need one.

Why hate and blame the school, hm and teachers when the parents made the choice to sent their kids there despite the notorious reputations mentioned from pg 1 to pg 226 ? Since the lady hm to current one?

How can parents let their kids suffer, mental torture, bully, cane? I just dont understand.

U made the choice.... And yr kids suffer for it!

I don't know if LH had changed - my daughter, who was below average in the LH academic rankings, enjoyed herself thoroughly there when she was in LH. She was picked to be trained for basketball (but we pulled her out of it since she was lagging behind in her studies), tried her hand at ping-pong and badminton too... and she even made the school choir, competing in some inter-school competitions. So, where was the biase for top students for the so-called prestigious extra-curricular activities?

Exactly. I agree with you and share your confusion too. Knowing the school is a hell for kids, why send your children there and come in here to complain everyday? No logic man!

All of a sudden I'm hungry. Going out now to makan.

With the same logic, you know your children will definitely being discriminated by the quota system in award of scholarship, vasity intake, choice of preferred degree, etc...

Why still let them suffer ?

You made your choice to be here (maybe u don't have other choices), but your children pay the price of your choice...!

    How to explain ?

    Please dont confuse the point..

What CM means is kids with below average result are not given a fair chance to participate..

Parents have the right to agree or disagree for their kids to take part based on personal, academic and whatever reasons they deem fit. One good example is what kwchang posted where he prefered his daughter to spend more time in studies than basketball.

I also asked my son not to participate due to logistics/transport reason..
