Thank you to YC for BM Pemahaman Oct 2010 paper

I just want to post a thank you for mummy YC for helping us once again with the "missing" BM-Pemahaman-Oct-2010 past year paper.

I need to tidy it up, so please give me a few days to do so and then I will email it to the other parents as well.

Thanks again from all the Std 2 parents in the forum

PS: My apologies to a few parents that have dropped off my email list - sorry, too many emails/names flying around - do remind me IF I have accidentally left you out.

Tough to get the motivation up !!

As the final exam for the year looms over the near horizon, I found that a lot of my son's friends including himself are finding it tough to get the revision engine going - it seems the "holiday" mood from UPSR is having a big effect !!

I have to remind my son - just study and focus for next 3 weeks, AFTER THAT, you can play for the next 8 WEEKS (long school holiday !)

    BM tuition teacher

I just came back from oversea few weeks ago. My son is going to std1 lick Hung next year. He doesn't know any BM as he has been with international school kindy for the past 2.5years.
I need to find him a BM tutor urgently so he could learn some from now till end of the year. Does anybody know any good BM tuition teacher?

Std 1 BM is not tough at all - it is possible to self-teach at home IF you are prepared to spend some time doing so.

Since you are planning to start early (as in now), why don't you get some BM Std 1 books and try at home. You may be plesantly surprised to find that your child can learn BM easily provided attention and focus are given.

The most important aspect to master in Std 1 BM is the SUKU-KATA, this will help with the pronouncements

Give it a try first before taking the BM tuition route.

My mistake - pronouncements SHOULD BE PRONUNCIATIONS

BM is one of the easiest language to learn - all it takes is regular practice and reading.

Thanks CM. I'm still new to the community. Really appreciate the advice. Will try to get the text book of std 1 and try out. Problem is I myself also half pail water when comes to BM. :-)
I heard maths also tough at LH? Std 1 is studying Std 2's level? Everybody open their eyes and mouth wide big after hearing that my son is going to LH next year. That scary?

Quit LH and going home-study route

Wow !! I had a few parents discussing with me yesterday of the prospect of quitting LH and to form a private home-study group on their own since they were all chessed off with the dismal education system and schooling in Malaysia.

Hmmm .... I must admit looks and sounds interesting .... one of the parents is an ex-schoolteacher (Mandarin) and she volunteered to teach Mandarin in lieu of SJKC.

It was the first time I was invited to take part in their discussions but by the sound of things, these mums have been discussing for quite some time already.

Apart from the Chinese language, the main reason I sent my kid to study in SRJKC is – he can learn the social interaction skills which cannot be taught if he studied at home, or in a well-protected private school..

I don't think home-studies is good for kids...

Yes,i agree with you, kids must have a large pool of friends and parents also get to know each other.Home school is basically monotonous with no basic time table ,but lots of flexible time for children.

I think their thoughts were largely driven by concerns after reading this:

DPM: BM to continue as medium in national schools

    http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp...950&sec=nation

I get the feeling that these mums are just fed up of the politicians messing around with their kids education and future. One mum mentioned that all 3 of her children studied different things driving her nuts ...

So, they may even opt-out of the education system and make their own way. Why do I say that ? Well, it is because they asked me for help to research on international examination boards and syllabuses like IGCSE, International Baccalaureate (IB) etc ....

Well, if the parents think the education system is wasting their kids time ( I think the same way too), my advice is :

    1. still go to government primary school, but don’t pay too much attention on the bolehland educational emphasis like UPSR.

    2. focus on the global survival skills like English and Mandarin, and the essential EQ attributes like interpersonal social skills.

    3. decide which school to go (chinese independent school or private school) in secondary level, based on your tertiary educational plan for them and financial flexibility.

    4. Having said that, you can still send them to government school in secondary level if your plan for their tertiary education is in private university (local or overseas), just don’t pay too much attention on government exams. Focus on the international entry qualification like SAT, A level, etc.

To optimize the hard earn money, I think #4 is the best option.

    Cheers
