Well, our Sun is a star too so it's high time to include pics of it.

Pretty good shots, mick, especially the first one with the flying predators. I must say we currently do have a very photogenic and interesting evening sun. Cut down the exposure a few more stops, you should be able to capture three (actually there are a few more, but not they're not so obvious) large sun spots on show in the sun right now. Each one of these is capable of swallowing a few Earths....

Sun flares...I must say they do look like really enormous prominences; even more impressive than what I occasionally see in my special purpose solar telescope!

All the 3 shots are great! Wouldn't it hurt your eye to take such shots?

    I like the last one.

it does actually there is also a chance of frying the cam's sensor so don't try this at home

Clouds and haze actually act as a filter (sort of anyway). But unfortunately they also blur the Sun's image a bit. The best way to shoot the sun is to use solar filters. Good ones do cost a fair bit, but you'll get sharp images of the sun spots.

It doesn't hurt the eye if you are shooting with Live View....but as mick pointed out, you could burn your sensor if the Sun suddenly broke through a gap in the clouds. I would never dare to shoot the sun directly without a solar filter in front of the lens...except during a total solar eclipse. Even then, it's a race to put the filter back on in the split second the moon starts to uncover the sun.

My latest attempt taking a moon pic using my friend's 5DmkII with 28-300mm lens. I was fumbling in the dark, trying to figure out the buttons and functions. heehhhe.. after a while i gave up coz it was cold.

Looks like i need to get my own 5DmkII so i will know how to use it huh?
And a better tripod so that i wont hv to worry about the whole thing collapsing.
