Mick... one day come and visit me lah.. you can go to the desert and camp out there. Day time you can enjoy the scenery of the Anza Borrego desert (an hour plus only from me) , and at night... the whole entire milky way. You dont even have to worry about camping gear.. semua i ada. (still brand new in packaging)

It's that time of the year again, Jupiter is at Opposition.
Took this single frame shot with my Sony A6000 a few hours ago. Jupiter will be even closer in about 25 hours' time so if the weather permits, I hope to be shooting again!

Nope, overslept and woke up at nearly 5am. Tried some shots but Jupiter was getting low in the west by then and behind thin clouds. Next few days the weather wasn't too cooperative for photography, although more than good enough for plain old fashioned eyeballing. No worries, plenty of opportunity for a few more weeks.
Just played around with the earlier pic to see if I could pull a bit more detail out of the single shot. Not too shabby for hardly any effort (essentially a point and click pic).

Last Saturday night. Managed to shoot Jupiter showing the GRS (Great Red Spot aka Great Orange Spot) and Io making their transits. The black dot is Io's shadow. Io is the little white dot to the right of the shadow.
My next challenge will be to try for 2 Jovian moon transits with the GRS visible as well.

Any plans for Astronomy Day April 29th? Hubby and i are going up to Palomar Observatory coz he is now a docent there. Docents and their family are invited to join in the Astronomy Day event there on Sat. Yay!!

Good one, mick! Goes to show that you don't need a wide again lens for Ms Milky. Luckily I still haven't bought the Samyang. Now I think I should just go invest in a fast standard lens maybe around 24 to 35 mm fl, at least can use for everyday photography too.
