I don't like to hear from the volunteers that there are people who came by and being nasty to them. I feel bad these happened. Mind you, our volunteers are mostly young ladies and we have 2 who are less that 12 yrs old.

We have been recycling those we find unsuitable or giving them away. While we do appreciate and thank all for your generosity in contributing books to the BEP, please make sure the books are at least in acceptable condition.

Many times we found books with infestation, moldy, torn & missing pages, those scribbled all over, etc. Just dont treat BEP as a dumping ground, that's all. I can tell you it is no fun going through those books that are moldy, dirty or infested!

Jan, we dont need a trolley at the moment. You have given us lots over the years...so, THANK YOU again.

We strive to make BEP Cabin a nice place for all and we need your cooperation in making it so. And, be NICE....

It has been a good year for the BEP. We moved into our cosy cabin in July, held an official launch by Subang Jaya assemblywoman Hannah Yeoh in August, organised Board Game Days and a storytelling session by Anne Ooi. We have also arranged more than a dozen book exchange sessions at the cabin since late July. We owe a big thank you to the BEP coordinator and the volunteers' committed efforts in helping to run the book exchange. We also thank everyone who liked our Facebook page and for supporting us. Hopefully 2014 will bring us all good tidings!

Re-posting Sulyn's posts in our FB page here for your information.

    1st Jan 2014

    - We are very grateful to be on the receiving end of many generous readers who kindly donated quality books for the BEP, giving book lovers hours of literary entertainment and knowledge. There is very limited shelf space at the moment. While we work to solve this, we have to be more selective about the kind of books we accept for exchange to maintain the quality of our library. Certainly you would not want to visit the BEP if the collection is outdated/stagnant/badly kept. FYI, we will take in popular fiction/non-fiction/children's books that are in acceptable condition, ie. not torn/scribbled/dirty/wet. Thank you for understanding.

    - For people who do not or seldom check into Facebook, we are now offering e-mail notifications for book exchange sessions and other activities. If you would like to receive e-mail updates, please send an email to sjbookexchange@gmail.com indicating so. Please share this with your friends and family, especially those who love to read but don't use Facebook.

    Have a great week-end!

Kindly do not leave books outside the gate of BEP Cabin or throwing the books into the compound. We are mostly at the cabin on scheduled days of the book exchange sessions only. Rain or insects may get to them before we do. Wet books will be unusable while books with insects (ants, lizards) crawling inside make sorting such an unpleasant thing to do.

We are running a book exchange programme, not a recycling centre nor a disposal centre for unwanted books.

Please understand that there is limited shelf space for the books. We are also doing our best to have a good selection of titles/authors and making sure these books are in good or acceptable condition for you to exchange with. Hence, please bear with us for being selective of those books that we will or will not accept.

We will also not be accepting magazines, academic books and compact discs as there is hardly any demand for them.

Books thrown into compound or left outside gate We are highlighting this issue because there have been numerous instances of books left in these manners. Some good books were useless due to rainwater getting into them while some books are best sent to recycling centre due to poor condition....haizz

Thank you for your support & understanding.

There is no schedule for the storytelling sessions as Ms Anne Ooi volunteers when she has no other engagements.
