Testing Out Celcom's Prepaid Broadband

I'll be travelling out of town this weekend and will be testing out Celcom's Prepaid Broadband service in my little out of the way hometown.

So far testing it in PJ has been a bit disappointing, speed wise. Let's see how it works outside the Klang Valley.

Am presently using Maxis's and it is really hopeless. So blinking s..l..o..w...!!!
Luckily I only use it on the road, for emergency purposes.

At least I still have my Streamyx at home, not that it is fantastic but, what else do we have at this moment?

So far I'm not very impressed with the speed and stability of the connection on 3G settings. Will test the GPRS settings tomorrow.

For my home and office connection, I use Jaring's FLITE broadband. Been using it since I was staying in USJ and have not found much reason to complain.

Hi Bob, My expectation is that celcom wireless bb should be better than Digi, since Digi uses Edge (not 3G) speed is limited, while Celcom uses 3G and coverage might be better. Outstation might be less congested than in the Klang Valley. Hope it goes well for your testing.

Good thing about Celcom is you can opt for daily usage (at a rate of RM3/day at a reduced speed)... Others is on at least a committed basis for 1 yr, changed monthly. P1 speed good but might be limited in accesibility esp outstation.

Assume you have 3G h/p for the celcom wireless bb (so, no need to buy modem - extra cost).

I'm using Maxis 3G service on my iPhone and it's really slow in most places! even when it is showing a "3G" connection the connection speed is really slow.
The other service I've been trying out is Wimax service by P1 & Amax... when it works it is pretty fast. however the feng shui has to be just right (position, direction, next to window etc) to get a good connection.

Ok .. brief report.

3G connectivity in Lower Perak is iffy in some locations but GPRS is fairly stable. Try not to have too many browser windows open and you'll probably do ok
