Someone told me if you choose VW Touareg, its safer because the car jackers not interested in you. If you pick up a Lexus RX350, be ready to be car jacked... ha ha ha!

The Hummer looks nice, yes, but not suited to Malaysian roads. Even if you drive it in the jungle trails, I think even the puny Suzuki win hands down. Its too wide lah. I used to drive the SJ410 and this Land Cruiser in front of me always had a lot of difficulty negotiating narrow trails. Worse was one time when we had to drive along a narrow ledge on a mountain side. I can really see his wheels was only 4-6 inches from a dangerous drop off the cliff and his wing mirror was scraping the mountain side. If a Land Cruiser can barely make it, the Hummer surely cannot lah. But things are reversed when we are talking about broad open space, like a desert.

The Hummer is a SUV, more suited to cruising the streets and light to medium duty off-roading. Land Rovers and to some extend, Suzuki SJ410 Jimny are more suitable for more serious off-roading in tight trails due to their short wheelbase. Hummer's sheer weight an size is it's handicap.

To compare offroad vehicles, then u have to compare the military Land Rovers vs old retired military Jeeps vs High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV or Humvee) which is the original form that the civilian Hummers 'mutated' from.

Over the past 2 weeks, I have test-driven the Volvo XC60 and comparing it to the Touareg and RX350. The RX350 was smooth, like driving a car man, maybe thats why I am not so keen coz it doesn't have the ooomph factor...

The Touareg was the outright winner. The one VW let me have for 2 days (I used 1 tank of fuel lah... ) was a 3.6 engine, it was superb lah in terms of acceleartion and power. The road-holding was like driving the Golf GTI lah... The sales rep told me there is 4.2 V8 engine version but that will need to place order and wait for 4-6 months from date of order.... aiyoh, I can imagine the 4.2 V8... this 3.6 V6 already pumping 275 hp....

The Volvo XC60 drove well, spacious and the turbocharged 3.0 litre T6 engine was responsive..

Now, I am in a dilemma again.... between the Touareg 3.6 V6, the XC60 and added another headache the 4.2 V8 Touareg... life is tough man!

You are supposed to be my good buddy and you are putting ideas.... if you want to look at the Z4, go for the M-power version, the Z4M, only problem its 75% more than the ordinary Z4! But its not suitable for Amber, her legs are too long ... a Porsche Boxster would suit her better... any kind-hearted generous offer out there?

Anybody know if the Volvo XC is going to be a total revamp and come with a new engine?

The new S60 will be launched in March 2010 with totally new looks and engine. I suspect the XC 90 will too since the XC60 is more powerful than its big brother...

I need to know guys... please!

I once had the opportunity to own a Volve 840 from my company. After driving it a week, I live to tell you what I went thru with the car:

Air-con. At 100 Km/hr. No air-con. Only hot air. Last month, after 10 years, while in Europe, my friend drove me in his Volve, same problem, at 120Km/hr, no air-con. But at 160Km/hr, the cool air comes back!

Wind screen wiper. Short and noisy, completely useless in a typical Malaysian down pour!

Roof. Water leaking in heavy rain. I got wet feet!

Dash board and upholstery that deformed and peel-off under the hot sun.

Steering wheel. The plastic peels and disintegragted.

The doors. Cannot be closed properly, resulting in terrible wind noise.

Door letch at the inside. Watch out! it is so profound that a child's small hand can easily get caught inside and accidently pull it, cause the door to open!

The body color that discolor within the 1st 2 years.

It drives like a tank, poor suspension!

Petrol guzzler when speed exceeds 130 Km/hr..

Spare parts and service. No one know how to service the car except "experts" at the Federal Auto Workshop in PJ and there is the only one in the KLang valley that I know off. I drove the car back to my village in Kedah once and the car dash board show a red light signalling service required. Dung! I had to drive the car all the way to Alor Star to service and the mechanics had to go all the way to Butterworth to get the ori spare part. Imagine, the cost and the time!

I really hope Volve improve because I still like the CX60 SUV and considering buying one!

pls get your facts right,
first there is no volvo 840 models
true, volvo may not be the best car there is on the road, but it was never as bad as what u had describe, what u hv describe is a poorly maintained car(regardless of whatever make).

aircon problem? if only u know where the competent air con mechanics r?
spare parts , mechanics, workshops, is not as bad as what u hv describe, there r many specialist volvo spare parts shops around n the parts cost a fraction of what u pay at FA(original parts) n OEM parts will even be cheaper. same goes to independant workshops, there r quite a few around , if only u know where.
if as u describe , who can afford to maintain any old volvos(which u still see running around) or for the fact , it won't be worth it.

anyway, i m a volvo owner , but then again, each his/her own.
