Court allows use of ‘keling’ in dictionary

I'm confused. So, is 'keling' derogatory or not? I've heard the term being used for ages. Anyone care to shed some light on its origins?

    Full report here: http://www.themalaysianinsider.com/i...-in-dictionary

The High Court here today ruled that the use of the word “keling” is allowed in the Kamus Dewan Third Edition as the word in the dictionary is for learning purposes.

If we MALAYSIANS look forward to being mature, cultured, civiliized and uphold good mannerisms, do NOT use this word or never encourage our offspring to use it. Its perhaps time and again I've heard this since young especially from the uncouth, who habitually utter various sorts of local lingo foul words that certain people or ethnic races now preceive as offensive or degratory. If our fellow Malaysians now feel the word is foul or degratory, let it be and DO NOT USE IT in any conversation, discussion or anywhere else. Take it as these words aren't relevant anymore in our civilized society.
Just don't speak the word anymore..Is that so difficult?
Personally, I've tried my level best never to use foul or swear languange (whatever dialect or language that I happen to know) in any conversation. The word discussed here is also included.
btw, maybe the phrase "semua ok" should be gazetted in our Malaysian dictionary.

It is a derogatory word so we don't use it against our Indian friends. It is in the dictionary simply because it is an existing word and it merely explains the meaning... I think its a fair decision by the judge.

Friend, I said it is fair to be in the dictionary because the word merely explains the meaning. I said the word is derogatory if it used against an Indian.

BSLee is right when he said we Malaysians need to be more matured in our outlook. I think you need to be so too.

Hey, the word nigger is also derogatory and yes, it is in the dictionary.
