    Pirated CD in Car Ban?

Received this mail today. Don't know if this is a recent 'news' or just one of those emails.

Can anyone verify if this information is true?

    Mail content:

    Dear Friends

    Recent road block experience

1 pirated CD ... RM400.00 fine. So how many CDs do you have in your car now????
Please do not keep any pirated or burned CDs, DVDs, or VCDs in your car.

    BREAKING NEWS:

Police and Domestic Trade & Consumer Affairs Ministry's enforcement division have started the operation to search and fine anyone who keep pirated disc inside their car especially through road block at all main road and expressways.

If any pirated or burned disc found inside your car will be charged RM400 per disc. Example 30 discs found means the fine will be RM12,000.

So be extra caution & careful....

Remove all pirated CD from your car immediately. One CD fine RM400

Any truth to this police exercise?...I'm sure many have those CD's in the car.

this is absolute abuse of power again...to have a copied disc in the car is not an offence...it is for personal use and not for the public...

if going by their rules then carrying an i pod or mp3 player is an offence since its contents is copied..

i will not bother to worry about it and go to court and argue the case..

once you say that they will back off

AFAIK, if you have the original album and backing it up on CDR for personal purpose (no distribution to others) its perfectly alright.
Goto court?.. THAT'S the tedious, time consuming and hassle events to follow when it comes to seeking justice in Malaysian court. Unless you're well versed with proceedures and the ability to defend yourself, then by all means go ahead, otherwise its going to cost you to engage legal aid for due process of law. Thats how things work around here and its not like you go explain yourself and expect a judgement in your favor. Why do you think there's a high percentage of OKS (Orang kena saman) who rather compound their summons than fight it out in court, even if they were in the right?.

I have a strange feeling that authorities are all out to teach everyone a lesson with punitive fines and perhaps generate revenue from it all. Its somewhat been like that all along as in traffic offences, do you think Malaysian bad habits have significant improvement even though thousands kena saman every other day?. It goes on and on till kingdom come.
Just my 3 sen, I stand corrected though.

Aiyah, no need to think so difficult lah. If you encounter roadblock, open your door slightly and 'deposit' your cd's on the road only. Anyway to re-burn a cd will only cost you less than 50 sen. No need go court!
