Lick Hung - a good school?

My daughter and son are lick hung student, std 3 and std 1.
Recently, my daughter told me that during the morning assembly, the head master of Lick hung said that ď those student that canít catch up with their work or poor with exam resultĒ should move out from lick hung and try other school.
I am surprise with the statement. If this is true (the HM did said that), I am thinking how on earth an educated (may be not) HM able to say so?
I clarified with one of the teacher and confirmed that the HM did mention the same statement during the morning assembly.
PIPG meeting is coming and I think parent should attend and give this arrogant HM a lesson.

a good school should be a school that can turn weaker students into good students. Benchmark should be set in that way, else the weaker students will always be neglected.

I can understand the need to be competitive but the HM should say it in a polite way.

Good schools need to be competitive.

    Arrogance breed contempt...

    Happens everywhere la...

Only way to 'hantam' these fellas back is to be pro-active in the school affairs and 'show' the school you mean business... heck, even in my daughter's school - the YDP/PIBG was a 'chest thumper' but when kena sounded about 'ethics','principles' and 'personal intregrity' oredi compromised... he quietly decided to step down... ... but that too, because his backing/support gone. The Headmistress oso kena sounded !! I guess after she realised what trouble she could get into, if she backed the YDP's nonsense... she stopped backing him leh...

Same thing with Lick Hung... if you keep quiet ~ I'll bet this HM is gonna have all of you - for breakfast, lunch AND dinner.... and shaft anything and everything he fancies, down your throats - in the name of Lick Hung reputation and records...

    Think of it positively....

What do you expect from a person being doing the same thing his whole life?

I think teachers (especially stuck teaching in Primary school for so many years) only know teaching..... would he know much about PR, Communications, advertising... or even photography?.... maybe some or a hand full.... They only get to go to short courses for short period.. if too long... parents complaint ..... how? They are only humans.....

Even minister can say and do stupid things ....

Well, the arrogant part... when u face with arrogant parents.... you have to be arrogant too. If you (the teachers) are to timid.... the parents will bulldoze them over...

Its tough in LH.... my daughter goes there too... with so much homework, activites, tuitions ...... only kids can tahan pressure.... can survive.

Go to the PIBG and see what happens.... LC needs check and balance!

Well said, Franky... I think the HM just under pressured to push up the results and forgotten the humanity aspect. Parents should highlight this in the PIBG meeting but not in hostile manner. Let the HM clarifies himself then.

    A catch .22 situation no?

    parent timid... teacher bulldozes...

teacher timid pulak... parents bulldoze pulak...

dua-dua bulldozers? how leh... mebbe can use at the nearest highway project...

No la... actually, best to approach the HM and seek explaination/clarification to his statements... if still got 'arrogant' response... then one has every right to state his/her mind about the 'attitude'...

definitely not this teacher - m has a broad and varied knowledge and interests - which he is always talking about and sharing with his students - how else to make classes interesting for young people who have a 15-20 minute attention span?????

    Cheers, m

This has been the strategy of a lot of so-called "premier" schools. If there are non-performing students which will affect their performance in public exams, the students are often "pressured" by teachers, senior assistants and the HM to transfer to another school. This happens very often. When I was a senior assistant in the technical school in Melaka, we used to be the dumping ground of certain technical schools in other states. Often, the students would be transferred on the pretext of wanting to be near their relatives as most technical schools provide hostel facilities for some of their students.

    some chinese "educationist" don't know the meaning of wholesome education or holistic education. They are getting more & more kiasu and exam-result oriented. All they care about is reputation & winning competitions;

Teaching to score straight As is actually very easy, but nurturing and shaping the right character is way more important & meaningful.

These teachers are like lost soul. but what to do, some parents are also like that. And this type of arrogant HM needs some sounding, what a disgrace & insult to the young ones.
