    No wonder MAS not profitable

Is it necessary to have their pilot & air-stewardess stay in HILTON Hotel? These places cost a lot to the P&L. At one point, they needed govt to support them...at the other end, they stay at 5 star hotel. Sound like those in Wall Street

I even wonder do they get 'special rates' from them? Maybe it cost them more cos the hotel need to pre-book for them You knowlah...these purchasing dept are good at purchasing over-priced items.

AFAIK, their accomodation is based on a pre-negotiated contracted package deal which work out to fairness on both sides. Its certainly far lower than usual hotel rates for walkin or vacationing guests. Its much like tour companies who have package deals all over for their customers making it attractive for holiday deals. Of course it all depends on the airlines to get best deals and lower operation costs..but are they?.
Should we expect MAS or other local airline crew to stay at Chow Kit road hotels just to lower costs? I think there's a certain standard to be maintained..only 4-5 star hotels.

It's rather strange that you (Jimmyay) would be commenting on a accommodation for airline crew when it has been the same standard practice for all international flying airlines around the world, regardless of how well or badly they are doing financially. I hv worked in a hotel b4, and having a contract with an airline is beneficial to any hotel, plus the contracted rate is far lower than anyone can get if they walked into a hotel without special corporate rates. Hotels should be in a safe area, have accessible facilities around the area and also have good reputation to ensure a safe good night's rest for the crew. How can anyone expect the pilots to hv a restful night in a hotel that;s situated in a crummy area just to save cost. Plus they need internet service which some countries cannot even provide properly, to log in for work reasons.

It;s like if your company sent you out to some foreign country and booked u at a crummy hotel in a crummy area... do you think u'd be feel safe, and do u think u will be happy about it? Think about airline crew who spend most of their time in different hotels all over the world.

If my company were to send me to all parts of the world in the name of work, I would not mind staying in 3 star hotels at all.

Depending on your position, you can do better than that.

You didn't get me, did you? What I meant was that as long as I was given a job that gives me the opportunity to travel around the world, I'm a happy man. Or am I too easy to please?

yeah..whats wrong if they stay in a 4-5 star hotel..they need a good rest... and dun forget, they only have about 24 hours of rest and they need to fly off the next day.

even if my company send me overseas to work, there are a list of panel hotels and mind you they are at least 4 stars....

every company will have an image to take care off... and even air asia also doing it..

What you said make sense. Importantly they are getting a good rates. Does Air Asia staff or other budget airlines stay in Hilton-grade hotel?

As per your title thread... are you referring to MAS crew only or about all airline crew ??

Sometimes, you really wonder how some people got nothing better to do but to raise questions....

Come to think of it ... mebbe you should contact MAS and suggest to them where to put the pilots and crew to stay when they are overseas... and help MAS save tons of money... just make sure that the hotels you suggest got lots of entertainment, strip joints and gambling dens... not forgetting prostitutes and massage parlours... Then (MAYBE) MAS would offer you a job as Director of Hotel Accomodations and Entertainment...

    sheeeeesh!

Could be that Hilton is available in all of MAS destination... and they might get good package deal from Hilton. I don't want to be on the plane where the pilots could've been staying at some unknown budget hotel at some shady part of town Staying at a hotel associated with Paris Hilton will surely cheer up these pilots

There are standards that have to be met.

How would you feel if if you were paying First/Business Class and you saw the whole flight crew coming out of a hotel in Jalan Alor??

You'd probably be thinking, if they cannot even afford to put their flight staff in a first class hotel, to what standards do they service their planes?

When you have been flying 16 hours across 3-4 different time zones and you have to be ready to stay awake for another 16 hours on the way back, tell me you will be happy staying in a 3-star hotel.... those in the airline industry will tell you its not an easy life, the entire body system is being in disequilibrium every day... hern luan ah!
