    S-video cable

Thinking of getting one to hook up astro to LCD TV.
Anyone has good experience with it? does the picture quality improves?

s-video is supposed to be the better option compared to the red-white-yellow radio jacks. I hooked up s-video by default - sorry, don't know if it is worse with the other cables. Probably not much different because our eyes accommodate for the slight differences in quality

Can I check with you guys whether the astro dish can function like a normal TV aerial? My neighbour asked me to connect the cable to her TV but I need to modify the connector which does not fit into the TV directly. The previous tenant who moved out left behind the astro dish. She does not intend to subscribe to astro.

Im trying to hook up my laptop to my tv using an s-video to RCA cable - the connection is there but I cannot see anything clearly.

I used a cable before and it didnt work, so I bought a new one yesterday - it also didnt work.

Im thinking of getting a straight s-video to s-video cable but I wonder if there might be something else not working.

Anyone have experience making the connection between laptop and tv?

    Cheers, m

You've to refer to your laptop manual how to switch to S-video output. I know most laptops have a hot key switching Fn + Fkey (something like that) to enable external monitor + LCD or either one.

    thanks guys

I tried the hot Key, Fn + F5 and the Intel Graphics Accelerator program and neither worked.

The connection is there but the tv screen is all wavy and grey in colour. At one point I did see the icons from the laptop screen but it was still grey.

Satellite speakers are working great - but I cannot control the volume using the remote anymore...

no matter ... I got bass! which really rounds out the sounds of the tv programmes.

I will check the laptop manual to see what Im missing.

    Cheers, m

Check your TV system, Auto, NTSC, PAL. Or try on another TV?

good idea to try on another tv.

I switched tv systems and tried to reset the graphics accelerator to match the tv system.

The problem is that my tv only gives me a few options, NTSC (2 types), PAL, and Auto...but there are about 35 different types in the menu on the laptop

    Still working on it.

    CONTROL PANEL>DISPLAY>SETTINGS> 1. or 2.

Highlight No.2 and see the little box below with this line, tick it !!

Goto ADVANCE and change refresh rate [if necessary] 50hz

svideo is slightly better than RCA, but if your reception is already bad, it will not help much

    allurban,

if u see grey and wavy, but still can see roughly the image of your desktop, it means the TV cannot recognize the signal, its is best to set to AUTO.
