Must be in good condition and immediately available. No preference on particular brand or model but would not consider those European model. Can view anytime of day and any day of the week but not at night. Venue must be within Subang Jaya and USJ vicinity.

This morning I went to the Car Market at the MBPJ multi storey car park and was astonished that every floor of the 5 storey building was fully occupied and every car there was on sale. I noticed that about 90% of the cars there are from the second hand car dealers.

I have reservation buying from them as I also noticed that they have put 'make up' for the cars they are selling. With my budget, I was able to buy any of the car there but end up buying nothing as I was afraid of getting a car that has bad track record. Some of the cars which are hardly 5 years old have even been repainted and that worried me.

Everything being equal there was this Sept 2003 Proton Waja 1.6Ai with very good body (original metallic paint) and good enjine condition (including aircond) and low profile alloy sport rims with new tyres going for RM 28,500 which was later reduced to RM 27,500. I thought it will be a good buy but I am not too sure of the price. Anyway, I will pop over to their car yard in Cheras to negociate further. What is the fair price you think I should offer him?

For RM28,000, you could probably get a 2005 Proton Waja.

Today went to a second hand showroom in Old Klang Road which also sells new Toyotas to view their collection of cars there. There were 5 Wajas all Year 2003 selling prices ranging from RM 24,500 to RM 28,000. I brought along my mechanic and he shortlisted them to 2 - one selling for RM 24,500 and the other RM 27,500. He recommended the more expensive one which I also agreed with him. The road tax tells a lot of stories too. One thing I find not right is the expiry date. The cheaper Waja road tax has expired 8 months while the other one was just last month. My mechanic said that most probably the car was bought by the second hand car dealer in a tender and the nine months expired road tax was the duration for the bank to execute the tender. The other is more frightening - it most probably met with a serious accident and was extensively repaired thus explaining why it was 8 months off the road. It would be best not to touch these type of cars.

Finally bought the car at RM 26,500 car. I learned a lot in my search for a second hand car.

    1. Better not buy your car from the Sunday Car Bazaar at the MPPJ Multi storey car park. It is not only very confusing but there is a good chance that you will be fleeced.

    2. Be very focus of what you want and also buy within your budget. I went off but I felt that that was a good buy.

    3. Lay off from any car that are totally repainted when they are less tha 5 years old. There must be a reason for the respraying and nobody is going to tell you that this car has met with an accident before.

    4. Bring a along an expert. In this case my mechanic was really heaven sent. I avoided pitfalls and he was also able to negotiate price based on facts which is easier to arrive at an agreement.
