I suppose that would be in terms of dirty as in "hygiene".... in terms of 'dirty' as in the number of rooms believed to be haunted.... I would say it was the old Merdeka Hotel in Kluang, Johore.

We used to stay in Merdeka Hotel (apart from the Kluang Government Rest House, it was the only hotel in town) as sales people during the early 80s and every salesman in Johor swear that almost every room is haunted, ha ha! Those were the days.... no choice, either sleep in the hotel in pairs or if you happened to be in Kluang alone, its better to sleep in the car parked at the police station car park....

stayed in Aseania 4 years ago. The hotel is cheap so I didn't expect very much from it but still leave much to be desired. It is far away from the beaches and the happening places. It is old and certain part of the hotel has poor ligthing. I should have stayed at Datai Langkawi, but couldn't afford it hehe so Aseania it is.

but hey at least i have stayed in a place that make it to the top ten list !

Wonder if Tourism Minister Azalina has seen this list at all. Such a shame that both the Malaysian hotels that qualified in this list of dirtiest hotels are named "resorts"???

I have stayed in First Hotel Bangkok 2 years ago. The building is a quite old and they were building the new Annex at that time.
However, I would not say it's dirty. Linens, toilet and carpets are clean. Walls, furniture is a bit old, but still well maintained.

Hey, look at the bright side, Singapore beat Malaysia in the list, 3 spots vs 2, including 2 in top 5. How is that, huh?

I spent 2 days in Colmar Tropicale during CNY Feb 09 and found that hotel rooms were kept okay but publicly accessible places - like toilet, restaurants were dirty...

I am surprised that Hotel Grand Central in Singapore is No. 2 on the list... I always use their toilets on the ground floor and they seem very clean... It is also located in the midst of Orchard Road... many Japanese guests...

Friends from ours from the UK stayed in Aseania UK few years back. They checked out without 48 hours after finding the state of their room unacceptable. Last straw was when one of the kids (NOT a rambunctious toddler whatsoever) was nearly electrocuted by a faulty equipment in the room whereupon they duly lodged a complain at the reception and got a blank look. No, they are not the type who paid peanuts and expect the sky. On the contrary, they are a hardy, non creatures of comfort kind of travellers. I believe Aseania was once owned by, ahem, a former Minister of Tourism ...

On an extreme end, We know of another family who never go for anything less than M$1K a room a night for domestic hols. Yet, they said they were disgusted to find a thick layer of dust underneath their bed at this exclusive hotel in Cameron Highlands (hint: the former Merlin). For the price they paid, I guess they deserve to expect more.

Yes, I find Grand Central SIN in the listing a bit perplexing too.

    Colmar Tropicale

I stayed at Colmar Tropicale which is at Bukit Tinggi (run by Berjaya Group) recently and it did not seem dirty. So how come it is rated as one of the dirtiest hotels? It is quite clean actualy.

65% of the reviews in TripAdvisor gave the lowest rating -1 out of 5. Negative comments by guests were not only restricted to the TripAdvisor website. Presumably, the recent refurbishment was only concentrated on the general and common main areas and not all the rooms.

Hey the hotel is centrally-located along Orchard Road and popular with Japanese guests lah. Two things I know, the Japanese tourists won't stay in a dirty hotel. Secondly, the Singapore government would slam down hard on the hotel management if there is any tourist complaints....

I always stop by the hotel to use the toilets because whenever I am along Orchard, I park my car at the back of this hotel, cheaper mah...
