Last week I recieved an email which said that anti-perspirants cause cancer because they block the body from getting rid of toxins, then there was the wax in the ma***e mee which they claimed causes illness and then today I am shocked to read this article. I am sure the ladies are going to fume over this. Have they just found out about this? Really worrying...

If you visit scopes.com, it says that the wax in the mee story is false. Along with a lot of other little myths circulating the internet.

But this talc powder is worrying isn't it? Does it include the famous baby powder brands as well?

we are exposed to chemicals daily. can you avoid? a lot of chemicals in our food, daily personal care and household products were suspected to cause cancer, one way or another. use/eat organic products??? honestly, may be a handful of us can afford the real / 100% organic products at this trying economical time..... so, just use / eat in moderation lor....

There are studies that come out everyday warning us about dangerous stuff. Which one to believe? My take is, let's not worry and do/eat everything in moderation and be happy.

if one actually bothers to conpile all the "beware-of"s in the net, and observe diligently the recommendations, thats what he/she will be - a walking dead person.

regarding the talc claims... it could be a little bit more talk than talc. the sample size is only 3000. there is also an admission of "certain dna makeup" being a contributory factor. and hey, how many people do you know who were not very regularly coated in talc powder since they were struggling in their diapers particularly in the less favourable smell regions of their body and how many of them ever got cancer, not even to limit it to ovarian cancer? mind you, they are quoting risks in the region of 40%. surely with these statistics, if they are at all reliable or significant, you would expect to see half the female population dying from some form of cancer of the female reproduction system. by the way, did the study use a whole array of talc from different manufacturers or did some supplier of corn or rice flour based powders provide the test samples? i love statistics - it provides more room for controversy, yes, even more than politics can. sorry, toyol.

Even before about talc news was out... my kids already not using talc when they were babbies.... instead mild baby lotion or baby oil. Just imaging the amount of talc dust while applying ... not very good if inhale in large amount. As for nappy rash... there is a cream... cant remember whats its name.... to use.

Even before about talc news was out... my kids already not using talc when they were babbies.....

I didn't use talc on my boy too esp at the wee wee area..and he had not much of a prob with nappy rash. Personally, I was advice by Docs not to use talc on babies (boys or girls) due to proven diesease/problems that may arise when adulthood. A few Docs whom I know of do not encourage using talc on babies private areas esp girls.

Even if you splash talc on your baby, nappy rash is still unavoidable if the mommy/nanny is lazy! Diapers got to be changed every 2 - 3 hrs max according to babies wetting and not until the diaper weighs 1kg!! Before a new diaper is placed, baby's bottom and private area got to be wipe clean follow with applying nappy rash cream despite there is a nappy rash or not. Bear in mind when a baby gets nappy rash, the pain is rather unbearable for the little one.

So talc scare or not, the best thing is to consult the Doctor.
