Hypermarket kill the local industry. They sqeeze the local suppliers to the last drop. They charge supplier for the space to display their goods. Any suppliier who want to place their goods need also to pay a listing fees. To make sure that the local supplier really die, the hypermarket come up with their own brand and said they are cheaper.

I noticed something that may seem puzzling but can make sense. Its true that My*** retails many personal care products that are way cheaper than next door or anywhere else having the same product. I believe they're getting it from another cheaper source other than local distributors. I don't think its fair to name the actual product I'm talking about but its some RM10 cheaper than at local chain pharmacies or supermatket, and the hint is I believe it meant for another country's market.
The item is not for me but my other half insists on buying this from there because of huge savings.

mydin has a troop of buyers, who source for cheap products from china to usa to wherever...mydin with few outlets in the country, they can even at times, buy just 1or 2 container load, warehouse priced branded FMCG. And after loading the container, whatever space (nooks & cranies) left in the said container, are jammed with even smaller items, say shavers etc...

the local hock chun chain in ampang & dmsara hts, are doing the same lah...thats why u can find, similar products but priced cheaper...its called parallel imports.

    Yang Beli parallel imports latotupai

p/s ultimately, if i can stretch my ringgit, i dont care who i buy from...ditto, i fly aasia cos its cheaper. I dont buy the fullservice. I buy the low fare. Period.

Of course I know whats parallel imports and its not the reason that irks me. Shows that other supermarket chains are NOT doing enough to reduce prices of many items by outsourcing from other places and reducing sole distributor monopoly for decades. I don't expect every item to be reduced as many items are still local distributor controlled prices. Giant's prices of many items can vary greatly from complex to complex eventhough they're 5km apart.

if i were to own a minimart or a chain of minimarts, i'd source for the cheapest products and I will also do endless parallel imports (but under the radar to avoid the exclusive distributors from jamming me) and then SELL all at the HIGHEST price! Or same price as the next hyper/supermart

    Y??? Hahahahah! I am a businessman! I don't love u! I dont even know u!
I love your money though! Period!

My reason for being is to MAKE MONEY!. Lotsa of it!

well, being a housewife I go for the $$ worth policy...at the same time, family health is very important so I go for quality, freshness and choices too...
I find that all Hypermart has their own share of strength in certain products. Giant & Mydin are compatible in their dry grocery & household chemicals but most of the time can't meet up with the freshfood in terms of choices and freshness esp when comes to organic products and Mydin on the other hand has a larger stationery dept, clothings and home furnishings. Both are compatible interms of fresh fruits (I think those that frequent will know what I mean).
Oh yes, what bslee says about the RM10 cheaper product, I think its the Maybelline 2-way cake as I use to get mine from Mydin too but tumpang neighbour.
So to my preference in terms of freshness, quality & choice, Jusco Bkt Tinggi is my 1st choice and I go there on our family day (Sundays) so the kid can also enjoy himself with the big indoor playground and fastfood choices..the children, ladies and gents dept are also very big and up to date with choices and designs, I take it as a family outing sort of like a one-stop thing. Its not that far using the LDP hway behind..towards Kota Kemuning-Botanic can reach in 20mins..not congested/jam. Jusco Sway also not too bad. Then Tesco is relatively good too. I frequent Carrefour during weekdays only when I miss out on a thing or two. Giant's my last choice...I go there when I see really huge price cut esp during sales...eg lately I use alot of the coupons from the booklet on top of a sale they had.
To me no point of going to a hypermart where only a few products are marginal cheaper, thereafter have to go a few more places for this and that.
My hubby use to frequent Walmart when he goes for overseas postings and he told me its really good in terms of choices and $$ worth.

Can you please clarify a bit? You mention taking the LDP to Jusco Bkt Tinggi. How do you get to Bkt Tinggi using the LDP please? Normally I would take KESAS if I go to Bkt Tinggi. Thanks.
