Be Careful of the Big Giant...

This is not a new subject. We talked about it before. Now its still happening.

Generally, I have given up on this supermarket. Why? Everytime the cashier makes an error, they have to run around looking for the supervisor to swipe his tag so that the error can be remedied. And often, one looking for the supervisor is quite a chore and a waste of time.

You want to use gift vouchers? Be prepared to wait too. Cashier needs supervisor's authorization! What a waste of time.

Then they opened up the new outlet at Putra Heights. This morning, thought I would drop by to see what the place is like. And since there, thought we get a few things that we require. And guess what? Another waste of time again!! Dont the EVER learn? We picked up a bottle of Listerine at a gondola end display and the poster clearly reads RM7.99. See picture.

When we checked out, cashier keyed in this item and the read out showed RM8.66 !! Told the cashier the price was wrong. Looked at me blankly, called one of the storehand to check. And the cheek, he came back and insisted RM8.66 was correct! Gave them a piece of my mind about Giant, pulled the storehand to the display and showed him the poster and price. Went back to the cashier and dont know what he told her. Then he disappeared and called the supervisor who came. Told them to cancel the item; was no longer interested. When I went back to the display to take this photo, saw a group of them discussing about the problem at the display. Dont know what they were talking about. As for us, we had enough of Giant for one day. They really get on my nerve!!

So, please if you must shop there....check the prices when paying. Hopelessly unreliable ...!!

Personally, I don't like to visit Giant (the hypermarts to be exact).

The way they make full use of every square inch within the store to display/put up items, just give you a hard time moving around, with or without trolley.

And their price checker machine, always not in operation or not online.

I think that the need for cashiers to look for their supervisors intervention to remedy an error made is universal. Been to Carrefour and guess what? The cashier needed to look for the supervisor too. Been to The Store and guess what......? The cashier needed the supervisor. Then it was Fajar...... Yes, you have guessed it again. The poor cashier needed the supervisor's intervention.

So that makes it unmistakable ... all cashiers everywhere need their supervisor's intervention to make remedies. And though it seems inconvenient, there must be a reason why every Hypermart seem to have the same practice. Guess its to have a tight control over the cashier's activities...as it involves money. And anywhere there is money involved, there are opportunities for fraud. So its a preventive measure on the part of the management.

A little patience and tolerance goes a long way.
That's OK Chang, I am quiet aware of your biased moderation too... And I dont need to slip in any last few words

I've experience this before in other places and they quickly allow the lower price.

Obviously they did'nt update their inventory system fast enough to reflect the current promotion price.

Recently I was in Metro, The Curve. I bought a Renoma T-Shirt which has a 70% discount. I did'nt ask the sales attendant to write their bill and went straight to pay. I was only given a discount of 50%. I then check and found out that I MUST get their bill first as this is a special discount and this is not updated in the inventory system.

One thing that irks or annoy me time and again, is a bunch of beady and vulture like credit card sales people standing right at the cashier counter, watching you when paying for your purchases. The moment you flip out your charge card, here they come.
The other is right outside the exit door where there's individuals sitting down selling something in return for a donation. Nope, I won't use that name to categorize them.
How can the management allow this I don't understand, and its been for a long time since past. Something very wrong there all along.

Agree to some extent. But at Carrefour, supervisors turn up very fast, though price problem rarely happens there. Giant seems so often!! I have used vouchers at Carrefour...no need supervisors to authorise! As though they dont even trust their own vouchers! ;-(

If I am not mistaken, with your photographic evidence and if you have the checkout receipt - you could make an official complaint with the Ministry of Domestic Trade and give em a helluva headache - a mouthwash to wash away the bitter aftertaste...

If something like this had happened in a grocery store or at a market... the Ministry or enforcement fellas would be carting the goods outta the premises for misleading price tags!

in similar case, i must give credit to the way carrefour handle it, once i was charged a different price than the promotional sign, went back to take a photo of the sign, walked to the customer service show them the receipt and the photo, she initially tried to cook up excuse but I'm not convinced, then a young indian chap on roller blade stand next to me asking what's the problem, explained to him, without a blink he instructed the customer service refund in full and gave me the food for free and he skate away before I manage to say anything. Admit that some of their stuff are more expensive but since their conduct is more gentlemen, if it's not exorbitant i still consciously willing to pay a bit more to reward them.

As a buyer, we must always check the pricing. Even when i go mamak or even dim sum house, i like to ask them the pricing. Don't get cheated.

    Beware of Giant USJ

    Hi Guys,

Just wonder anyone realised that Giant rounded up price of each item that you bought instead of rounded up the total amount?

Opps... I am one of those that normaly allow them to swipe the card without checking. Gotto be careful next time-especially at this time when time are bad.

The above is probably the staff had label the price wrong, or forget to update the new price. (their pricing fluctuates very quick)- i thought they have this "System Intergrity" policy, that they will honor the lower price between display and their electronic.

Anyway- don't blame the cashier, as they are only short term staff, which could not be given too much autority. They always must rely on the supervisor. The management should hire get more supervisor standby instead.

Giant seems generally cheaper than the other 2 competitors right? but do watch out... Speed99 is coming into contention already.

I have experienced wrong pricing at almost every hypermarkets I go....even Jaya Jusco....it is a hassle but I realize the cashiers are not at fault, it is because these hypers carry such a huge inventory of items and prices change every so often....

I checked my entire puchases from all three hypermarts (Tesco, Giant, Carrefour) in 2008. I spend an average of RM220.00 and I do my grocery shopping every 2 months. Last year I conducted my grocery shopping 7 times.

After comparison, I find that Tesco is cheaper but I only went there once out of the 7 times. Majority went to Carrefour.

Easy and simple : which hypermart sells the cheapest items?
    Tesco / Carrefour / Mydin / Giant.
Don't beat around George Bush and just give me a straight answer.
