It's actually good, but still not a masterpiece. story is rather loose for me. and i dun understand why they need to portray the japanese general as good guy for the sake of trying to be political correct. (the wwii japanese soldiers were assholes, samurai-spirit or not)

but the fighting sequence is very nicely staged.

I don't watch a lot of Chinese movies because I don't understand what they're saying. But thanks to astro and with a lot of help from friends and relatives, my understanding had progressed.

Recently, I watched Ip Man and was really impressed with the cinematography and plot. A most entertaining piece of work.

One question, though.

Why were there two types of Japanese flags in the show? One with the red sun, and the other with red stripes radiating from the red sun.

Good question, I'll have another look if there are indeed two!

Naka. I asked around and discovered this. Apparently the old imperial flag is the one with the stripes radiating outwards from the sun. The new flag is the one with just the red sun. Case closed.
