My Melaka neighbour, if not mistaken, mentioned RM200. That was in 2007.

As for Bkt Rimau, that's my friend's neighbour. But they don't seem to interact with one another much.

Pucman, the Bukit Rimau house is a double storey intermediate house. The satellite dish was put near to the letterbox/gate area.

Btw, I had a fun time calling ASTRO awhile ago. I called 1800 82 8888 to make an enquiry on technical issue. The phone was picked up by the customer service agent within a few rings! I was instantly impressed.
Never has this happened to me!!!

Most of the times I will wait until my arms are too tired to hold on to the phone receiver and yet no reply from the other end!

Guess what the other party told me? This is ASTRO Box Office. Sorry, for technical issue, you need to dial 1800 82 3838!!! No wonder the immediate call pick-up!!! I had a fun time commenting this to the CS guy online! The guy was speechless!

Not surprisingly, the technical line doesn't respond as fast at the Box Office. I even had to listen to those IVR and then those promo announcement.

Talk about double standard customer service!!! ASTRO prefers to provide quality service to NEW POTENTIAL subscribers only! Not existing ones where there are pending problems to be resolved! That's what monopoly does!

I got fed up and wrote to Astro on 24th January:

    Dear Sir or Madam,

I understand you intend to charge for your Astro magazine in the near future. In this publication's current format, I am unable to check daily listings for BBC entertainment, Disney, and Nickleodeon. I have no idea what the movies are about as you only list their titles.

Your original layout that showed what programmes featured on what channels at what time, combined with a list of summaries of movies showing was fantastic.

The current Astro magazine is a disaster. The layout is extremely unfriendly for readers. I want to know what's on the TV channels I pay for; I am completely disinterested in celebrity interviews taken from feeds and other extraneous information.

So when you intend to start charging for the magazine, stop sending it
to us. Our account number is XXXXXXXXX and our address is below.

By the way, you STILL have an unsecured web page that demands people who contact you via your online form at http://www.astro.com.my/service/contactus/ send you their names and IC numbers together with their query.

As I have informed you before, this is a serious security risk for your clients. As it's incredibly easy to put in a secure web page, I can't see why you don't take this simple precaution.

As you are obviously totally uninterested in your client's security, this email is copied to the NCCC.

    Yours faitfully,
Astro wrote back day before yesterday:

We refer to your email dated 24 January 2009 with regard to the Astro account XXXXXXXXX.

Firstly, we would like to thank you for taking the time to provide your feedbacks which have given us the opportunity to improve our service and process towards our valued customers. Please accept our sincere apologies, for not being able to respond to you much earlier. We also apologise on any inconvenience caused, arising from your usage of Astro View.

We are please to inform that Astro View magazine free period has been extended to February 2010. On the issue of the listings section, kindly note that the BBC listings were missed out in the January 2009 edition of the magazine due to a technical error. Rest assured that it is available from the February 2009 issue onwards.

Regarding the Disney and Nickelodeon Channel Listings, we have listed all Fun Channel listings in a two page spread in the magazine, rather than the regular daily listing section. We also endeavour to publish as much programme synopsis as space permits, you may refer to the various sections such as ‘The Grid’, ‘Watch Out’, ‘Week Ahead’ for more programme information.

AstroView has evolved from a simple TV programme listings guide to the current TV Entertainment magazine format. This transformation was implemented based on extensive research and feedback from our customers who have indicated a strong preference for more exclusive contents, articles, interviews, synopses and hot picks which will truly enhance their viewing experience.

In addition, please be assured that we have taken your feedback seriously, on having a secured web page, in which customer’s confidentiality should be our utmost attention and priority. As such, we have highlighted this concern to the respective department, and are pleased to inform that it has been fixed accordingly. You may proceed to use our web page from now onwards, for online communication with Astro.

We trust the above clarifications are in order and we thank you for your patience and kind understanding on the matter. Should you have further queries, kindly contact blah, blah, blah,
Extensive research? Anyone know about this "extensive research"????

And notice that once again they promise to fix their web form security problem. That's the third promise in what, a year?

This Astro monopoly is a burden to the consumer. My brother in Saudi and my mum in Europe get 400 channels for the same fees we pay.

If anyone wants to write on this topic to Astro directly, PM me and I'll share the email contact.

    Ellen

    Rephrase your intro.
    Its NOT EVERYTHING.
If you say like that, then every current paying subscriber is either mentally retarded or an imbecile.
