PROTON SAVVY- need some feedback

Visited Proton road show and was told that i can trade in my old Proton for RM5k if i take Savvy....

the offer is only till December 2008 so I am thinking maybe a good offer but i don't know abt this car's performance

anyone has experience with this car can offer some advice? Thanks!

I've only driven the car a few times for fun "test drives" but I can tell you that the car does handle very well and is a fast and peppy car.

However, it is also a bit too small and you will feel the small size if you are traveling distances.

As usual with proton cars, the issues are with build quality. I cannot comment on specific details but that is what paultan.org (iirc) is for.

Savvy according to my friend who is driving it, its good for town driving. Easy handling, good fuel comsumption and etc. Everyone will have their own opinion on cars. The best is you test drive yourself and feel it by yourself. Then compare it with Myvi... then when you feel the difference, decide on which car you want to get.

I've driven the Savvy many times. I believe the suspension and road handling capabilities are related to some Lotus technology. Its a joy!...(compared to other Protons, not tried nor compared to other current models yet, I've always felt the Wira is the worst model in their stable).

hahaha.... Proton owns Lotus, so they can claim every model uses Lotus technology... But what is Lotus technology???

Remember the CAMPRO engine which does not have Cam Profiling technology??? But they still use the name.. Only lately that they finally come out with the CPS (Cam Profile Switching) technology..

Ya lah!.. anything our local salesmen tell us, we should always take it with a large grains of salt. They could even tell you TDM designed the shock absorber and hopefully we're not that guillable.
Neverthe less I still find the Savvy road handling capabilities as very impressive and definitely a big plus point. Trouble is, I'm wary of Proton's Campro engine whereas the Savvy engine is a likely a better design and more reliable than the former...matter of opinion. To me the Savvy is more of a automatic transmission car despite the dual mode. I also been hearing the Savvy engine parts are more expensive than other engine models.

If we are talking of proton range, I can tell you that the Savvy had a lot of thoughts and care put in when they produced it. It was very well built, solid, a pleasure to drive and even the radio system was much better than my Honda. That was at the time when they first launched it. Dont know about now.
But my friend who owns one for a about a year now, seem to be very happy with it.
It s a bit small, but hey, for that price...cannot complain lah. Anyway, seating for four adults is not a problem at all. I have also sat at the back..no problem for a 176cm guy.

I can vouch for the 'solidness' of the Savvy! In the pic below, u can see the lil green Savvy on the other side of the road. The poor lady driving it was in shock but she is fine. The car also fine.
The savvy was actually on the left side of the road, just went past the traffic light at a nice decent speed, then the pick-up truck saw the light was about to turn red, so he decided to 'step on it' real hard to beat the light. I saw it coz he was ahead of me. When he stepped on the gas pedal with full force, he slammed the little savvy which made the little car spin so fast that it ended up on the other side of the road, slamming into the car at the traffic light.

I had already stopped at the red light when i saw it happen faster than i could blurt out any foul language. The guy standing there got out of his vehicle at the far right of the street to rush to the savvy. He tried talking to her. I could see her reacting to him slowly but she was ok. Then he stood to see if the pick-up truck was stopping or not. I couldnt get out of the car since there was traffic building up behind me. I was on my way to taipan at the time.
Seriously tho.. the Savvy looked ok compared to that other proton.

All Proton models after Waja have since been injected Lotus technology, be it Suspension handling, Chasis design and Engine. Savvy is definitely having Lotus blood, mixed with French heart (engine).

Phres, if you are looking for a fun car to drive, yes Savvy suits you. Else if you looking for BIG and clumsy normal car, then you should look elsewhere.

The car is ok from the feedback I gather but the maintenance is shocking. It's more expensive then my former Waja(4G-18P). Well, Renault engine, what to do. Just hope it's unlike the Waja 1.8.

ok..this is not to pour cold water on Savvy. Its just some unfortunate breakdown
My sis in law owns one and the cooling system broke down, leaked off while driving, and stalled. Sis, being ignorant about the fundamentals just drived till it stalled...ok..never mind. The car was still under warranty and towed back to EON center. The cylinder head was replaced along with the radiator, and many other ancillaries. The cost amounted to something like RM10k. Of course its under warranty so it was FOC. They nearly wanted to change the whole engine but somehow reverted their decision to extensively repair the damage. No harm done, and the car is running fine to-date.

But this problem will surface soon if the repair wasn't done properly, especially with conti- engines.

If PROTON/EON can't do it best, who can do better?.
Anyway, the repair of any car cooling system have the same proceedures and fundmentals. Its not localized to continental or Japanese. One have to realize that we have trust that any car imported in for use in Malaysian climate or tropics, ARE fitted with a cooling system thats suitable on long term here. Thats why I don't trust so called re-con cars from abroard (that include their anti-rust treatment too. They may not be fully tropicalized. Wanna 100% trust the word of any used car seller?..I think not!.
Anyway, I'd not go into further details as it'll be too lengthy to discuss. Just that manufacturers export models ARE different from home market models. I believe my sis in law case was a rare incident.

Theorectically, they should be the best equipped. However, it is still very much dependent on the hands that work the tools...
