    Question Interior Designers

Hey all, i plan to renovate my house and trying to find some interior design experts and come to my surprise that their quotations are ....WAHHHHH!

I'm not sure if there's any designers out there could help to draw out some plans but not charging a whole sky ?

    Any advice? :

Yes, I need ID too for my new condo. Perhaps the charges will be cheaper with 2 customers.

yup- agreed that their price are crazy.....
I've try to get a few ID to do some minor design for my new house, all cost RM70k++...

At the end, i just get a carpenter to do it. Of course cannot compare the outcome la....
Anyway- get ID to do also not neccessary the out come will be as per the drawing. The shape and color could be the same, but the effect and finishing could be different.

Unless, if you get a very reputable ID firm.

i find it strange that most people are not prepared to pay for the value of products/services. of course i'm not saying just go for the priciest products/services. do your due diligence and settle for what's within your budget.

many professionals, ie accountants and lawyers are not paid professional dues. you want work done and not be prepared to pay for it? thus, many professionals, especially from the SMEs are so frustrated with the mentality of the clients.

like the chinese saying 'you buy $1, you get $1 worth of products'

same like those who keep saying price of food in certain areas are $ and yet they still go and complain about the price!?! it's a free market. dont like, then dont buy.

The design fee range (for a normal level ID) is:
    RM2.5k - 3k for 1 level (terrace house)
So if ur house's a DS, prepare around RM5k-6k for design fee alone.

that price is absolute nonsense..ask them are they qualified ( in terms of paper qualifications) to charge that amount...you can get a good fully qualified architect for that amount to design a whole bungalow..absolute nonsense!

the best thing to do is hired an ID designer and pay thier professional fees, but engage you own contractor to do it.
That was what I did when I renovated my house years ago. I hired an ID designer to do the plaster ceiling design, ligthning points drawing, extention drawing, furniture arrangement, colour scheme for the whole double storey link house and best of all, a bill of quantity ( BQ list) for all the renovation work involved.
Based on this BQ list I went and obtained quotations from contractors, and guess what, the contractors quoatation are almost half the price quoted by my ID designer! naturally my ID designer was not engaged.
If you want to try this method make known to the ID designer from the beginning that you might not engage them to carry out the renovation works. I paid less then 2K for their ideas and drawings
