    HP's Business Practices is Outrageous

I bought an HP Deskjet Printer 1280 on 14 Jul 06 for RM 900. Less than 2 years later, the power supply failed. When I sent it in for a checkup, this was what they proposed to charge me:

    1. Checkup with no further work done: RM 115.

    2. If I want the printer to be repaired, these are their charges:
    a. Labour .......................RM 230
    b. Parts:
Exchg PCA LOGIC AP SVC: RM 250
Assy Power Supply Svc:.... RM 235.50
    Total:.............................RM 715.50

Can you imagine what HP is trying to do to us?

Do nothing, we pay RM 115.

Change power supply, we have to pay RM 715.50!

The parts alone is more than 50% of the price! And that is only a minor part!

This is outrageous! Can anyone advise who I can complain about this matter to?

I agree with you the business practice is outrageous. Its the same with most of the elctronic peripherals... look at the price of original Canon printer cartridges... ridiculous, 3 times the retail price in Singapore! And its label says "Produits des Malaisie"!!!

Exchg PCA LOGIC AP SVC is the printer's logic board. There are two boards in the printer, a logic board and format board. The logic board is the board which receive the data from the computer to process it for printing.

Anything that has to do with power problem usually will cost a bomb. Sometimes it is cheaper to buy a new one.

oh..thanks madpajero ... then better buy a new printer... if not mistaken, canon all in one printer is about rm400 or is it rm500.

IMO, we cannot complaint anywhere or maybe there is a place. That is the price that is being set.

Agree. When my Palm 3 switch button broke, they quoted me something like about RM300, besides having to pay for postage to/from Spore. Just a small plastic piece. When I asked them if that tentamount to saying I should just buy a new PDA, the guy just gave me a dirty smile! The Palm is a good machine but I hope they now have a Malaysian distributor instead of being monopolised by a Sporean distributor.

why r u good people complaining about petrol prices and petronas and conterparts?

the least affordable yet essential liquid in my life is printer ink. do your own calculations. the damned mnc oligopolists for whom profits of a billion bucks a year is reason to chop staff and who have you by your nuts and bolts.

All you need is a HP laptop to have its LCD go bust or go defective just after 1 year after its warranty period and you can kiss your laptop goodbye as the replacement cost is unbelievable and miles more expensive than a 17" desktop LCD monitor. I think its the same with other laptop brands but anyone can get an eeiry feeling that HP is going to charge you hellava lot more and automatically puke.

If, after 50 years of independence, we still have to go through Singapore for our parts, something is wrong with our economic and political system. Our market is just as big. Our problem is the cost of doing business is too high due to our inefficient and corrupt bureaucracy. So the multi-nationals prefer to operate from Singapore.

I bought HP Laserjet due to its printer ink will not dry up after prolong non-usage. Canon's printer ink will dry up very fast if printer not in use for long period. Both brand's printer inks are expensive, more than RM70.

I still prefer HP printer than other brands.

Why buy a printjet (bubblejet) when the ink cost almost the same as laserjet and laser printer can print more pages per toner than the ink cartridge

Saw a samsung laser printer sold at RM190 during a AAA paper promotion.

Yes... It saddens me when seeing the sentence 'Made In Malaysia' on those ic's made by Motorola/Freescale , in Sungai Way n Penang , with the manufacturer saying they can't sell to us directly to us but have to ship out to Sg , then shipping it back to Malaysia No 2 ways about it but to pay for the extra cost involve for moving here from there.

I've many incidences of HP's high handed services as well. They'll ask us to pay first ,rm2xx+ ,before sending their service personnel over to take a look. No choices lar.....as there's no other alternative.

Hey PY, but there is so much concern about being known as better than Singapore.
