    Mamak Mee Goreng

Can anyone suggest a good place to get authentic mamak mee goreng around SJ/USJ? That's the main item on the dinner menu tonite.

    Thank you for sharing.

I find the one at Mydin USJ quite good. You may want to try there.

Heheh!..if I were to go all around Subang/USJ trying every mee goreng, I think I would have consumed a few bottles of poor quality cooking oil and my BP would have shot up the roof. I just can't find any around here that's comparable to the ones I used to have in the 1960/70's nite hawkers at KL. Actually there WAS ONE at USJ8 till they changed to another proprieter, that was the end of it...sigh! I don't know why lah..today's cooks are LOUSY!...no passion?, work for the sake of working..cheh!
Sorry lah..but mee goreng is an UNHEALTHY dish! I'd rather the plain MAGGI MEE with soup (full of MSG) than mee goreng with God knows what's inside.

I like the mee goreng Hussin sold from a mobile van in USJ21, near the padang. Tambah pedas, tambah cili hijau potong. Yumm!!

I have to agree with you there. Moreover the ingredients are so pathetic. Some taufu, an egg, a little bit of vegetables and other miscule soy-based items and it cost RM3.50 I used to like mamak mee goreng but I avoid it now because of health and the miserable little ingredients. This is one item that is now relegated to "once a year" item. Give me mamak rojak anytime.

I think he opens late noon. Anyone any idea? The chendol also not bad, but a bit sweet.
Actually the way he cooks the mee, the way he spins the wok, looks like the guy in Bangkok Lane mamak mee goreng (penang). I think their face also look almost the same. Anyone know whether they are related?

If you're to ask me, RM3.50 for THAT mee goreng is daylight robbery!. I think the USJ21 raised the price to RM3.80 since flour prices increased.
I can value it at RM2.50 at best..not more!..roadside wor!., rental, high overheads..what high overheads?...

Yes, totally agree. I also noticed that I cannot get good mee goreng, mee rebus and maggie mee goreng nowadays. I think all the old cooks have gone home or they all decided to change ingredients. Nowadays, the taste like 'tak masuk gear' one.

Eh i the mee mamak and mee rebus is similar to the penang style type, the best I could live with was this stall along the KFC row in Section 15, where the fruit shops are and Gruardian pharmacy, I think.

Meee goreng there is better than the mee mamak.

But honestly, I do miss the 70s/80s style mee mamak. I just cannot find it anywhere, even in penang.

Times have changed? Me getting old?

This thread makes my mouth watery.
Sorry but what is the 70s/80s style mee mamak?

I grew up eating the Bangkok Lane, Jones Rd and Swatow Lane, mostly variant of PG style.

But I do not know the 70/80s style.
    What the difference?

The mamak mee goreng you get in KL these days are more of 'Indian National' versions. But in Penang and even in Taiping for that matter, you still can get the authentic mamak mee goreng, fried by real mamaks, not Indian nationals.

And I'm still hoping to get the authentic mamak mee goreng here in KL.
