Court allows Muslim convert to return to Buddhism

Court allows Muslim convert to return to Buddhism

Siti Fatimah Tan Abdullah (Tan Ean Hung) was allowed to return to Buddhism by Penang Syariah Court

    # The State Religious Council was tick-off for denying her application

    # Tan Ean Hung converted to Islam due to her marriage with an Iranian man

    # Eversince he left her, she practices Buddhist teaching and pray to Tua Pek Kong, Kuan Yin and Thi Kong.

Malaysians of all faith hail and welcome the "land-mark" judgement.
It's a dawn of a new era for religious dispute of non-Muslim.
    Cheers !!!

It was still done by the unpredictable syariah court and not the civil common law court. This is still unsatisfactory. One single case does not signify a trend-change; or that all states in Malaysia would rule the same when faced with similar cases.
    See you...

isarahim, your observation is more worthy of a standing ovation than the decision of the penang syariah court.

but lets all pray together that good sense will prevail and man will not try to elevate themselves to divinity.

It will only a small battle won and I agree that it is a giant leap for Malaysiakind. What I would like to see is that this precedent is replicable throughout Malaysia as situation differs from state to state. If possible made it simple to renounce the faith. How many poor folks can afford court time and legal fees for something so fundamental as our constitutional rights. It should be made as simple and cheap as drinking water or better still breathing a new fresh breath of air which is free.

    why pass judgement?

She made a choice and her choice was compelled by Malaysian law. The justification no longer existed and the court was wise enough to recognize this.

But they did "rebuke" the religious department for not trying hard enough to keep her as a muslim.

That part worries me a little bit.

    Cheers, m

99.9% of my 'converted' friends did it for love. Some of course for lust. But thats besides the point.

in Bolehland, they did the conversion bcos the laws say so..not bcos they believe in the faith. Its the only way to marry a muslim...

I also have friends from other countries where a spouse need not convert just to marry a muslim. The authorities there probably, have such high religious tolerance level, that the 'pretenders & hypocries' here need to look up to.

IMHO, all religions teach u 2 do good. All also teach fairness etctetc...and the basic of fairness is the freedom/ability to continue practise or NOT to practise the faith anymore....and the simple ability to give up one's faith is basic freedom at its core.

    Yang Ada Banyak faiths latotupai

p/s I also believe that the Holy Koran teaches fairness & freedom to choose.

If I am not mistaken almost all monotheistic religions have a conversion ritual / sacrament / ceremony.

I guess your comment wld apply equally to conversions into any religion ?

Hopping from one religion to another does not speak too well of the convertee in the first place.

Coming back to religion of origin is no assurance that she will stay put this time around.

Nope. A little hop is more like it. The day when a BORN Muslim is allowed to renounce Islam (without fear & intimidation), then you can stake your claim for a giant leap.
