    Myvi Rear Windows Defect

The below happened to my colleague. She has send this mail to Perodua HQ...is there anyway that my colleague could get some form of compensation from Perodua, please advice

I would like to express my total disappointment with Perodua Myvi car quality after recent encountered of rear window total cracked last week.

Perodua Kelisa has been my number 1 choice in car selection and I bought Perodua Kelisa since Jan 2003. I have also recently upgraded to Myvi (end of Dec 07) which I have purchased in Puchong, Selangor. I have been driving the car for about 4 months and as usual I will just park my car infront of the house if I am not using the car during weekdays or weekend. Along with other cars parked, it is safe to park on the area.

On Wednesday evening, my Myvi car rear window (with tinted) was cracked into hundred of small pieces. I was in shocked to find out the rear window was cracked but there was no trace of any sharp item or stone near my car which could cause the whole window to crash. Determine to find out the cause of the window cracked, I have sent in my car for investigation in Perodua Sales and Service Center on 3rd May 08. I was disappointed to hear that a very small impact point (as small as the needle point size noticeable on the right bottom corner of rear window) could caused my rear screen to turn in hundred pieces and I am the unlucky one to hit this problem. Also, there was similar report cases reported and Perodua usually do not accept the problem as manufacturer defect. As a result, I feel even more insecure now to drive Myvi car out on the road as possibility of the window cracked seemed to be very very high and unavoidable.

However, I have never experienced this problem on my old car’s (Kelisa) windows (non-tinted) for past 5 years. My conclusion, this is a serious quality issue as I am not getting the confidence safety level to drive Myvi car as compare to Kelisa. I would like to urge Perodua to review any enhancement for the window quality, robotic handling or any manufacturing defects that could occur and taken necessary preventive/improvement measure to avoid such disaster. Being the number 1 local car seller in Malaysia, I believe Perodua has the obligation to ensure driver safety and continuous improvement on any part of the car manufacture.

Nevertheless, I am still waiting for the full report from Perodua with regards to what cause of the total crash of Myvi window.

u r not alone, even the new Toyota Altis someone in Autoworld complained about windscreen cracked too,and its a new car. Same thing happen, toyota refuse to take the blame, end up the owner need to get it replace at his own cost. I wonder if local assembled car glasses are still made under licence by MSG (Malaysian Sheet Glass S.B.) for decades. They could also take some blame for manufacturing defects. One can spot their etched logo on each glass panel.

As far as I know the Myvi earlier batch problems have to do with the low quality front disk, water sippage into car due to poor installation work of factory, few cases of power window problem. This problem that you cited seem to be a new defect to me.

The rearview mirror seems to be a manufacturing defect. I had mine a year or two ago. Got it fixed by Perodua foc....

After that incident, there has been none untoward incidents (touchwood!)...

    Cheers!

To be honest, the window itself is not manufactured by perodua, they bought it from third party.

Of course you're correct. I've already mentioned that MSG S.B. is one primary source for OEM glass panels. Whether they buggered up the quality of the glass, no end-user will be able to verify or substantiate. End-users are left at the mercy of the car manufacturer to sort out and settle any issue....thats how it works. Trust Malaysian work culture and QC?.. I leave it to anyone's guess. So many car components are OEM from someone else.
