    Highway Ethique

Driving along the highway during festive season is most stressful especially those strech with 3 lanes. Many malaysian drivers does not realised that the right lane is for overtaking but many take it as fast lane. They just drive within the speed limit and doesn't careless about other users. Sometimes I wonder how JPJ approved their license.

How did JPJ approve YOUR license - when you are upset that you cannot go above the legal speed limit ? Last I remember, the unlimited speed limit on highways is only in Germany (perhaps some other countries.. this I do not know)

*disclaimer* I am personally (sometimes - ok ok - most times) in the same boat as you - I love driving fast and sometimes forget that I too EXPECT other drivers to get out of my way when I am driving on the 'fast' lane. I just have to repeat to myself that our public roads are filled with all sorts of drivers, and it is a futile effort to change everyone else - but I can possibly start with my own driving habits.

It may be my own mind playing tricks, but whenever I am 'speeding' on the highway, and every chance I get, I pull off to the left lane AFTER over taking, I notice that cars behind me will most likely do the same. Of course there will be the odd 'super JPJ license F1 driver that will do the opposite.

In any case, have a save drive home everyone.

    Unhappy

i'm glad that theres a part of civil society which recognizes that not only drivers of big buses break the rules.

and after all the curses and swears, discover that the summones are against the company and not the media-abused driver. and yet nobody offers a comforting word or an apology for the false accusations...

i'm repeating my disclaimer, i.e. i have absolutely no relationship with or interest in or knowledge of anybody connected to any recent accidents involving public buses.

To all those drivers who flash their lights at me when I am on the right lane at speed limit overtaking>>> my messge to you >>> stay behind and take your turn, let me overtake first and then you overtake me at whatever speed you want. Flashing lights at me would not change anything, but could in fact make me stay on the right lane as long as I like.

To all those drivers who overtake me and then very quickly turn into my lane. In many instances it is because there is another car behind them and so this quick change of lane is because the second car behind is flashing the lights >> my message to you >> please go furthur then change into my lane as you can hit my car if you change too early. Ignore the nut who flash the lights at you. You are in front and it is your right to overtake safely.

To all those drivers who overtake me and then slow down >> my message to you >> please make up your mind whether you want to drive faster or slower than me. Do not overtake just for the sake of overtaking.

hmm when i took my driving license some years back it wasn't stated in the law book that the overtaking lane supercedes the speed limit.. oh well the rules might have changed since.. maybe the person person should give his car number so that i can give way to him next time i see his car on the road..

Just to digress a bit. Does anyone know what the Road Transport regulation says about use of the hazard lights ? In some countries, it is allowed only when the car is stationary. In others, it is allowed under some other conditions, like when there's fog or heavy rain to make your vehicle more visible. I remember years ago, cars are fitted with fog lamps.

I think many are anything but vague about the use of hazard lights. I've known some drivers who don't even know whats a "hazard light" nor where the switch. Nevertheless, I seem to observe its already a current road culture to use it when it rains heavily with bad visibility. It does help though but yet the fact remains most are really not in the know. I'm not sure if any emphasis about it is currently within the lessons by driving schools.

One thing though..I HATE THOSE CARS fitted with those new bright bright xenon lamps. They produce excessive glare and this country is NOT ready for it.

On 2 February, a big black Mercedes S Class with a Malaysian Emblem as a number plate, followed by another big black Mercede also with a Malaysian Emblem as number plate, both with headlights on in the bright daylight and flashing hazard lights on. They passed me near Tapah on the PLUS Highway going northward around 11.00 am, is this legal? Oh, I was doing 140kmph, they must be around 180kmph in the midst of a festive packed highway.... Malaysia bolih!

So far in US, UK and EU you are NOT allowed to drive with you hazard lights on.
In these countries, the hazard lights are for stationary vehicles that pose a danger to other moving vehicles.
It is very hard to judge your distance from your moving vehicle to that moving vehicle if it uses its blinking hazard lights.
In our bolehland, there is no requirement for ALL motor vehicle manufacturers to fit the important rear fog light which provides better visibility to other drivers.
This attitude is not surprising, since some so called 'transport minister' do not even know where is the emergency lane is, let alone what its use is!
I feel the 'kampong' attitude is the rule when it comes to Roads & Highway Ethique.
It's ok for Family of 4 on the cub chai.
It's ok for bike not to have rear lights and small number plates.
In UK, Visibility for bikers are important. They have big number plates same size as cars. Wear reflective vest beside the usual helmet and head lights and rear lights always on.

Hehehe!.. VERY COMMON sight!...everyday, anytime and most of the time.
Attitude, attitude AND attitude!. I bet you all, you can jail them, fine them heavily, but it'll be square one soon after.

On other road offences, millions of drivers have been fined time and again..has it improved matters over 50 years?.. I think not!.. worse maybe.

In US, they do allow to use hazard lights, to indicate hazard conditions, such as snow, black ice, heavy rain, etc...
