Lost Car Grant

I realized that I have lost my car grant. Now I cannot renew my car insurance or road tax unless I find it or get it replaced.

Would anyone here know what to do in order to get a replacement of the car grant?

You'd certainly need a police report and go through the process at JPJ office...just like if one who's lost his NRIC. Other than that, no-one else can help other than yourself DIY through the whole process.

1) The car grant is in the name of my sister, who resides in our hometown. So, do I lodge a police report in USJ or back in hometown?

2) Can I lodge the police report & go to JPJ on my sister's behalf as I am the one driving her car now? I don't want to trouble my sis with this problem that I caused.

I can't be sure how PDRM at any depo would interpret the requirements in lodging a report and it can differ from place to place.
I can suggest you report the matter nearest to the place where you lost the document and its always best that actual owner is present where her signature is very likely required. Sorry..these are those sticky things one have to go through which is why one must learn never to take things for granted and keep very important or P & C documents under lock & key.

Have you informed your bank that the car reg card is missing if your car is still under hire purchase?

Unfortunately, the car loan institution is no longer in existence. And my car is fully paid off. It's an old car ~ but I still drive it. Over 16 years old. But very good condition. Someone told me that Puspakom may not grant approval for it to run on the road anymore as the car is old, despite it being in tip-top condition. And I may end up having a "besi buruk".

I have started ransacking my room now in search of the grant.

My primary school headmistress used to teach us to pray to St. Peter and seek his help to find missing item. I hope St. Peter would help me this time!!

Buddy, Puspakom has been known to deny approval even for brand new car if they don't find "an-pow" in the in-dash car ashtray... I kid you not... it even came out in the papers recently... someone blew the whistle on them and the ACA nabbed a load of this ikan bilis like real

Where and when did you last renew your roadtax... did you do it yourself or did you get a runner... chances are, you could have left it/dropped it at JPJ ...or at the insurance agency.. the guys that did your insurance cover before you renewed your roadtax.. just a hunch

Its not that difficult to get a replacement card. Things that you need to do:

1. Lodge a police report.
Your sister can lodge the report at your hometown, need not come here. Just inform the officer the card is missing and he would write the report for you. Its a simple one or two paragraph report.

2. Inspect the car at the nearest Puspakom.
You can do it at the Shah Alam / Padang Jawa Puspakom, do it yourself, will take you about an hour (or two). Its not much of a hassle and you need not bribe them, unless of course the car is not road-worthy. I believe your car is in good condition.

You can either tow your car there or get a 'one day permit' from them. In order to get the one day permit, you need a certified true copy police report. (just get your sister to CTC the report and mail it to you).

3. Get Sister to go to JPJ (at hometown).
Once you have your car inspected, the certificate of inspection is valid for one-month.
Post the certificate to your sister and get her to get the duplicate Registration card at te JPJ in your hometown. She has to go there in person. It takes about half an-hour to one hour and its done.

Believe me, I have done it for my 28 year old car (The lovely MINI , sad its not with me now), it was not much of a problem and not as difficult as people / the runners made it to be. It took a lot of effort and time. All in about 3 days of two hours each.
