    Renovation during Ramadhan

I just moved into my house and planning to extend my kitchen. Ramadhan starts this Thursday and I'm wondering if I should wait until after Raya to start the renovation. Some contractors told me they are having some problem getting indonesian construction workers. Do you think I should wait or proceed, appreciate your views and opinion.
    Thanks

from my experience, indonesian workers eat and drink during Ramadhan. It's impossible for them not to eat and drink. The indons are more relaxed compared to "some malaysians" here.

So, if the contractor is saying that he has difficulty in getting workers, I highly suspect that he may be trying to "mark up" the price. That's my thought.

If you don't believe me, go see in any construction site. At around noon to 1230, see if any indons are eating. Have a chat with any indons you see near the canteen or any stalls nearby. Ask them if they eat during puasa months. Most likely they will say they do because they come all the way here to work and earn money. Their ability is their strength. and their strength is obtained from food and drinks. It would be more sinful to deny them their fuel for strength.

if your contractor says that it's difficult to get indonesian workers during ramadan because the workers have not arrived, then it is a different story

maybe he has to "deal" with certain people to get the workers into malaysia ?

Err buddy...in your case it really depends on your contractor's capabilities n limitations...

When he is comfortable with it...by all means...the reno works can start anyday.

But if he is not comfortable with the idea...then you could accommodate by agreeing with him that his works should start full swing after the holiday period.

One word of caution...for security sakes...make sure that your contractor gives you a list of details of his workers whom he intended to engage to do the reno works.

If he can't produce that list to you...chances are he is NOT familiar with his workers whom could be hired on ad-hoc or temporary basis.

Orchi has full confidence of our resident e-contractor Ank345(Alan Cheng) of this forum n his works...perhaps you should try to contact him for a quote for your intended reno works.

I suppose that he has too much work nowadays, or maybe he is not willing to do any work for me... LOL I don't know which is which, but he has not got back to me in about 2+ months after coming over to my place to look at what needs to be done. So my roof is still leaking like a strainer.

I suppose I would need to look for anyone else to do some work on it now.

Sometimes advertising is not as good as it is made out to be. Too BAD.

Sorry I'm not Malay but I tot during ramadhan, one should work harder to gain more pahala.right?. I think it depends on your contractor la. But for chinese, Tuesday is a good day for renovation.

    Good luck.

Err buddy Robertec...it has been a while since Orchi last saw buddy Alan...n sorry to hear of your problem of a leaking roof at your home.

Orchi believes that he could be tied up with few prior committed jobs...

Tell you what...should Alan Cheng fails to get it fixed for you within the next 14 days...Orchi would whack his butt silly...n pay for his costs to fix it soonest possible.

Hopes the above...would satisfy you soon.

Don't be over dramatic pal. Construction projects in Malaysia usually are not stopped but delayed. I'm just trying to minimize the shortcomings by timing the reno right. But thanks for the good luck, it is this Tuesday or every Tuesday

Err buddy...btw...do you know how to read the Chinese lunar calender...or the "Thong She"...?

If you are superstitious...you should read it up to get the best dates to start the reno works at your home.

Certain Chinese believe...properly chosen dates...would render good well beings...n the reno works to be smooth.

    Else...it could be troublesome...

    But that's just a superstition...

Don't worry about it Orchi, it's not a big problem. So don't go putting your neck on the line.
