China-made toys: be careful!
US toy manufacturer Mattel has announced a second major recall of toys made in China.
Earlier, Mattel recalled 1.5 million made-in-China toys worldwide, due to worries over lead paint or tiny magnets that kids might swallow.
The latest recall, involving made-in-China Mattel toys, include popular toys like Barbie dolls, Batman action figures and Polly Pocket playsets.
In Singapore, Mattel has used the newspapers to inform parents that the following toys should be taken away from their children immediately:
- Polly Pocket dolls
- "Sarge" cars from the movie "Cars"
- Batman
- Barbie and Tanner accessory set
- Sesame Street Shape Sorter
- Barney Best Manners Phone
- Dora's House Figure
- Dora's Talking House
For details, check the Mattel website (http://www.service.mattel.com).
I am reminded that most of the cheap toys sold at mom-and-pop shops in Malaysia are made in China.

This thread should be aptly renamed, "Dubious quality control of suppliers in Chinese Factories."
Do not just use a general topic. It is very misleading to say that ALL CHINESE FACTORIES MAKES DUBIOUS QUALITY TOYS. BE WARY OF THEM.
There are many steps n processes in producing a toy and many suppliers as well. IMHO, It is a matter of QUALITY CONTROL.

China is in a transition phase. It is good that the current set back have woke up the government to improve on their quality and standard. Perhaps one day china will be like Japan in terms of quality and high standard. We use to dislike japanese products in the 50s & 60s. We felt that they were cheap and not durable. Some even said that their cars were made of Milo tins. Those days we worship everything British or German made. Remember Telefunken, Grundig or Philips? Where are they now as compared with Japan.
Having said that, the US also has a hidden agenda to tame the chinese economy as they are losing billions of dollars in trade deficit. The Americans are losing their jobs because of cheap imports. Therefore this is a very good opportunity to bring "them' down.

Last night I was thinking of the same thing as well. I recalled reading the reason for the recall was due to the toxic paint on the metalic toys which a toddler could put the toy into their mouth (or something along that line). With this in mind, it has brought me to this particular concern:
A certain oil station company sold me a Ferrari toy which IanC loves! However, when i checked last night, it is (1) made in China and (2) it is also a metalic toy with paint. So is this company going to issue a public assurance press conference?
I'm going to hide the Ferrari from IanC until i have some confidence that the toy does not pose a health threat to my toddler.
