    Anti Spyware n Anti RootKit...

Err buddies...while meddling with some options to install online freewares that could possibly eliminate problems of virus...spyware...malware or rootkit attacks to PC n NoteBook...Orchi came across the following...n so far these freewares have been running quite well in both the systems...

    Grisoft AVG Anti-RootKit.

    Grisoft AVG Anti Spyware.

    Grisoft AVG Anti Virus.

Choose to download each of the freewares...free versions...save the file...n run it to select the best options recommended for maximum protections by Grisoft.

Perhaps others may wanna...offer to share their feedbacks or experiences of using these freewares...or others that may also be available...from online open source. TQ.

Yep, its good stuff. I already have all 3.

Though the Anti-Spyware seems to have compatibility problems with my Vista. No problems previously with XP.

    Cool

One thing I dislike about Grisoft or AVG is that it takes up lot of resources of the PC, thus slowing down the PC.

I think everyone can afford a paid anti-virus software since it is less than RM100 for one year protection! I am using Kaspersky Anti-Virus protection...and i am pleased with the protection thus far as it does not take up much of your PC resources.

I got mine for RM50 only.

    Dear Orchi,

I see you have discovered AVG, I use the any spyware and anti virus myself and am very happy with the results. However, I did notice something else, if you manually update the virus search engine, the size of the TSR program loaded on boot up is much bigger then the alternative of allowing AVG to auto update itself whenever you go online. That might be the reason for Birdy's experience with AVG.

As for Kaspersky, have experimented with it soemtime back and found it very good as well. Only thing is ... it is not freeware, so $$$ needed.

Also, I wonder if anyone else has had this experience before, soem anti virus programs seem to detect viruses which others don't. So it would seem that one would need at least 2 anti virus programs to ensure a confidence level of not more then 1 standard deviation confidence.

    Opinions anyone ?

    Warm regards
    Jayan

Hey Jayan, most virus writers test their viruses on more popular anti-virus programs like Norton's and McAffee, that's the reason why they end up detecting less viruses than lesser know programs like AVG and Kaspersky.

I guess AVG and Kaspersky would face the same fate too once they become widely used and start coming as part of your OEM package, pre-installed. AVG has served me like a humble slave for years, just the ocassional virus creeping in, either to be relegated to the virus vault or cleaned Kaspersky is good too, but as you said costs $$$. I think they got just a 1 month trial though.

You must be mistaken. AVG actually uses very minimal resources. Unlike Norton which actually slows down your machine by 10% and don't even talk about McAfee. That crap managed to kill my Dell XPS M1210 running a Core Duo with 2Gb RAM.
