The park is in a shameful state. I went there for a jog yesterday. The place is horrible. The jogging trake is badly damaged. There is litters almost everywhere. There is a big hole in the middle of the track. (As big as a car)So dangerous. Who is managing the park > SIme UEP? What are they doing? With the amount of money they are making and they cant take care of one park. What a shame. They are only encouraging other ppl to abuse the place.

Even though the place was in such a shameful state but it was still a good jog for me. The air is fresher compare to doing any treadmill at fitness centre. There is plenty of fitness centre here in SJ but the outdoor jog at the park was all i ever needed. It was so much fresher and relaxing. I wish people could be more concern. This is the only green lung park in subang jaya. USJ have none. Please people do something.....

when they maintain it so poorly, then people dont show up to use it...

when people dont show up...crime and decay starts to set in....

then a few years down the line, someone has a bright idea and revisits the old plans for "development" and there goes another green lung!

This is a classic example of how the community can get together and make a difference....

anyone want to start with a series of activities? Photo sessions of the construction of the Subang-Kelana link would be an interesting start...how about "nature" walks...train spotting...a community barbecue?

Maybe we can somehow advertise a phony byelection and then our development and maintainance problems would be solved?

Ok, enough sarcasm...time for a walk in the park and a few letters from the USJ folk.

Here are two articles that appeared in the NST today, on planned development in the Subang Ria Park....

RM15m plan for Subang Ria park

Sime UEP Properties Berhad plans to build a water fountain and amphitheatre for concerts at the Subang Ria park.

This will be part of the facelift for the park for which it will be spending between RM10 million and RM15 million. Other facilities will include toilets and upgrading of the jogging tracks.

Do you believe this will happen:

"They will be able to go there in the evenings and say that they have a facility to rival the KLCC park."
However, he said that they could not provide all these planned facilities "without getting anything in return".

"So a commercial development on part of the land at the park will come later.

Some details:

The plan includes building high-end twin-tower condominiums and a car park.

They will leave 22.3ha of the park area for public use and 7.1ha for commercial development.

Sime UEP also plans to build a tunnel under Jalan Kewajipan to link Jalan SS16/1 to the park to reduce traffic congestion as there is now only one entrance to the park from the Lake View side.

That doesnt sound sooooo bad....Unforunately, this quote was also there:

Jauhari said the park could not be gazetted as a green lung because it belonged to Sime UEP. "It is our land, not state land. You cannot go and gazette other people’s land."

State rep to represent residents at hearing

Subang Jaya state assemblyman Datuk Lee Hwa Beng will represent the residents when Sime UEP Properties Berhad’s plans to rehabilitate and commercially develop the Subang Ria park come up for public hearing

For those of you who are interested, the plans will be unveiled at a public hearing at Holiday Villa on June 9.

It would be really excellent if you can turn up and view the plans. With the development of the Kelana highway, the SJMC car park, and these Sime Darby plans, the size of the park will be reduced...and this could be bad if the plans are not made to be people centred, focused on the people's demands and needs, not that of the corporations.

My God, as if the area around Subang Ria Park ISN'T developed enough already.

Take the toilets and the jogging track but kick out the water fountain and amphitheatre. Haven't they seen the "Bird Park" at the Kewajipan roundabout before?

"Once all this work is done, the park will look big and open". Nice. Then they decide to rape 7 hectares worth of land for their own "returns".

Coporate social responsibility? That's about as contradictory as "sustainable development" and "honest politician".

There is no need for an amphiteatre. As you all well know anything built will be left to rot. We have enough instances happening in our midsts. Just keep the park as it is and there is also no need for a high end condominium there as well. It is all a bull story to justify their wanting to build a condominium there.

I thought there is one amphiteatre already right in the park? But it's never been used before I guess. There are so many sections on the park especially near the go-kart track, there are some building stuctures but I don't know what they are used for. Skateboarding?

Theres is too much development in SJ/USJ that has caused so much pollution and I find jogging and walking in the open very detrimental to my health and sheer impossible..
To much of pollution from cars, factories and road and highway construction has made the air very hazardous for any form of outdoor exercise..so for me they can do want they want. Its not going to make any difference..i will rather do my exercises in some enclosed enviroment.

The authorities should first address the state of pollution in our town first its dreadful!!! and this wont be easy its too late.

That so called park near the roundabout is another example of waste n neglect. It was built with much fanfare but without thought as to who would want to use it as it was next to a main road with endless traffic and pollution. it is in a shameful condition and now they want to build an amphiteatre. for what?

MPSJ has TENTATIVELY fixed Sunday, 15th July 2007 at 2.30pm for the public hearing. The venue is at the Grand Ballroom, Holiday Villa, Subang Jaya.

Only rate payers of SS12 to SS19 will be invited to participate.

Notice for this hearing will be published in the Star and Berita Harian around 20th May 2007.

The President of MPSJ will chair the meeting.

Wait for the formal notice in the press.

I am surprised to read that only folks from SS12 - SS19 are to be invited for this public hearing. I am very certain there are many many USJ folks who are also very passionate abt the future of Taman Subang Ria and will be keen to attend the hearing to voice our support for its preservation as a green lung sans "hijacked developments"! Hopefully the good ADUN SJ will speak up for the inclusion of USJ residents' participation. Will follow up directly.

Here's a feedback from Dato Lee, in response to my query whether USJ residents can attend the public hearing.

The logic that only SS12 – SS19 residents are invited is that the 10% of open space covers only SS12 – SS19. Wangsa Baiduri is definitely within SS12 – SS19. In a normal public hearing only owners of immediate lots are invited. This means only Holiday Villa, Sheraton Subang Jaya and Subang Jaya Medical Centre will be invited. I have used my influence to extend to all residents of SS12 – SS19. This is definitely unprecedented. Furthermore, I have requested Sime UEP to book a ballroom to accommodate more people and also to be held on a Sunday weekend.

I expect a big crowd. To me, this park should belong to everybody including USJ, Putra Heights or even Puchong or Shah Alam residents. Only that officially we can only invite Subang Jaya (SS12 – SS19) residents.

I have promised to make the above arrangement and I have fulfilled it. The press advertisements should come out next week and the details of the proposals should be exhibited in MPSJ ground floor next week.

Sime-UEP's proposed development for Subang Ria Park is displayed at MPSJ ground floor (foyer outside the Auditorium) for public viewing and objection effective 21 May 2007 to 18 June 2007. Details of the project proposal are displayed and forms are available for your views and objections. Property owners from SS12 to SS19 are entitled to forward your views and objections.

The Notice was in the Papers on 21st May 2007 ... NST, STAR and Berita Harian ... classified section.

The Public Hearing has been scheduled for 15th July 2007 (Sunday) at 2.30pm at the Ballroom of Holiday Villa.

If I may add, property owners from SS12-SS19 are requested to go to MPSJ Building (USJ 5), get a form and fill in your objections ... todate, as Theresa reports, there have only been SEVEN (7) "objections" lodged ... by far a most miserably low statistic!

So, don't delay, go file your objections asap ... closing date is June 18, 2007.
