    Smile Sewing Machines

Anybody tried the Toyota sewing machines they sell at Courts Mammoth. Thinking of buying one cos they are much cheaper than Singer. My current Singer electric sewing maching is on its last leg. Or how about Brother electric sewing machine. Looking for one that can do zig zag, buttonholes, for appliques, etc. A friend warned me not to buy the ones they sell at the hypermarket. Any opinions anybody. TQ.

Just like you, I am looking for a sewing machine and yes, I was there at Courts and saw the Toyota sewing machine. I am at lost what to look in a sewing machine but generally applying simple rules, yes I would buy the Toyota if it is a car. That was last October. Since Courts doesnt sell Singer brand, I then went t Singer Malaysia head office in PJ and was told then that Singer would be launching a new family of sewing machines to replace the existing ones. Yes, the machines have been launched. And I was told that when buying any electrical or electronic goods, make sure that there are service centres and the rates are competitive. Just like you. I also had an old Singer machine and I had it serviced there and it cost only RM 30.00. So you bet that my next sewing machine would be a Singer which they are good for and not a Toyota. By the way, Brother is OK. They are well known for prducing sewing machines.

Singer 1st choice, but quite pricey now esp those with fancy stitches, etc.. Parts also quite expensive, they charge me RM70.00 for servicing my machine the last time. Now the electric foot paddle is spoilt, & I think it cost bout RM200/- for it, so thinking of getting a new one. For Brother, do they haf a service agent for home sewing machines here? I went to their website, but they dont seem to haf an authorised agent for domestic machines.

I don't know where you go. Must be one of their servicing agents. You can go direct to them at PJ (The SUN building along the Federal Highway) or Sri Damansara and their service is really express. I got mine back for RM 30 within 3 days. You can buy the foot peddle secondhand lah. Their new range of entry level machines are very affordable. May be you didn't know they have a new range launched just 6 weeks ago.
