Let me share my latest experience just happened this week. My wife uses a Fujitsu and we chose this model due it its lightweight - only 1.7 kilo which a typical cheap ones are weighing a ton. Early this week, the power adapter kaput. While the notebook carries a 3 year warranty, the power adapter is only 12 month. So they quoted me RM 250.00 for a new one. Then someone told me that you can get one for half the price and so I went and bought one from Low Yat Plaza for RM 130.00. Know what, that adapter though also branded as Fujitsu was made in Indonesia kaput after 3 days of usage. I don't mind that because the dealer who sold me this gave me a 30 days warranty. But the blimey thing is it burned up the notebook mother board. And because I used the non original power adapter, the whole warranty was void. The repair to the mother board was quoted to me at RM 2,350!! And when I took the power adapter back to Low Yat, that shop has the cheek say that he will replace it for me. When I want back my money, he said it is not refundable. Worst case, I can redeem for other items in exchange. As for the motherboard, it is not worth repairing. At that price, I can buy a new notebook. Lesson learnt - penny wise pound foolish. Please buy original when it comes to power matter. It has to be a perfect match.

I'm just sad that notebook manufacturers price their spare parts SO HIGH (especially very vulnerable motherboard or LCD) that it'll piss anyone off and buy a new notebook altogether. Its a terrible prospect!...we don't earn in US dollars..

From past experience with HP..its quite clear to me (after attempting to enquire and obtain some parts/accessories) that THEY are NOT keen on selling parts or spares just like that. Their repair services are OK..PROVIDED you agree at the charges they INSIST!...decline repair and they still charge a diagnostic fee..no free lunches but sandwiches & free coffee at the service center maybe.
    Oh well..just my past experience.

P.S..actually the staff attending to me "told me"..a few things to convince me what I have summarized more or less above..

pcyeoh: sorry to hear that, but did you compare the power rating on the original power adapter, does it match?

For my case, I won't be chaging the adapter since it is still working, just the connecter is spoil.

BSlee: you are right, contacted HP and the ask me to buy a new adapter when only my connecter is spoilt!

Ok now I know what you are talking about. You can get this power cable from computer shops in Summit. It does not cost you more than RM 15 and no need to get it from the manufacturer. They are generic. I have a couple of spares as well - two holes and 3 holes ones. Please check the fuse rating of your original power cable. I think the fuse used is the 5Amp ones and not the usual 13 Amps. That is important.

slightly off topic here, but notebook power related.
U see, I'm using a Compaq Evo NB (its before Compaq mearge with HP). Evo is the so-called "business range".
Anyway, the battery is about to kaput as it will "full charge" but last only abt 1 hr, compared to 2.5 hr when it was new.

Called HP and they refered me to 2 resellers. They quoted range of RM850 for new battery (got 2 weeks waiting period).

Was in Low Yat that day and saw some shops offering MB battery cell replacement. Price range abt RM250-300 but you have to give ur battery and they change the cells inside.
However, there's one shop will give provide the whole battery (battery case and cells inside) for RM360.

Anyone used these "refurbished" or "changed cells" batteries? Appreciate any opinions.

Pcyeoh, aiyoo, not the power cord la, it's "the connetor" to the notebook power inlet.

As long as the power rating on the Adapter is correct, it really doesnt matter what brand or generic brands you use. It will still work. But what pcyeoh experience is probably a very rare case.

But having said that, if you have the $$$ do get the original
