Visit Malaysia 2007...but where are the "tourists"???

Err...while tourists arrivals drops...Malaysia's Tourism Minister is busy cracking unfounded accusations...which he later referred to as jokes...n subsequently busy also claiming that the medias misquoted what he said previously...

Now he reports that while the tourists arrivals from Singapore n Indonesia have increased...by a certain percentage as compared with last year's statistics...tourists from Thailand has fallen behind blaming few reasons...ranging from unrest n bombing incidents in the southern Thailand...n flooding in Johor...so on n so forth...

What a load of freaking jokes could he be referring to this time...?

Why have Malaysians spent multi millions to promote Visit Malaysia Year 2007...when he being the Tourism Minister is only talking about statistics of tourists arrivals from these Asean countries...which are our close neighbours...?

Whatever happens to the tourists arrivals statistics...from other countries such as those from the Middle East(where the bulk of the funds is spent)...Europe...USA...Australia...Japan...Korea. ..China n Taiwan...etc.etc.etc...whom are traditionally 'bigger spenders' filling up the abundance of empty seats in Malaysian airlines' flights...occupying the vast numbers of available n relatively cheaper hotel rooms...patronizing the vast numbers of modern shopping complexes...n thousands of restaurants that offer rich cultural culinary heritage...?

n whatever happens to those millions of tourists who are fond of visiting Tropical Malaysian sights n scenaries to begin with...??

Why does he keep on stressing the freaking statistics from amongst our close neighbours...n whom is he referring to...? The bigger spending holiday makers...or those multi millions of our neighbours who also includes those from Vietnam...Philippines...Myanmar...or Bangladesh...that have been flocking in n out of Malaysia seeking for labour works opportunities...n fortunes from Malaysia...instead???

    Talking

orchi, have you tried searching in the KL multi-million toilets? some tourist might be inside.

they may also be in some shops trying out bulletproof and C4-bomb proof helmets, purchasing Mat Rempit Kap Chais, and trying to catch 30 snatch thieves, so that they will get a free motorcycle

Perhaps the minister should take a stroll (on foot) in Bangkok or Hanoi or Bali/Phuket.

They don't organize any VISIT WHAT campaigns. But they're loaded with tourists, mostly foreign & not just neighbouring countries.

it's sometimes necessary to complain or else we will not improve.

well, as for statistics, I m not sure how it was arrived at. but do know that statistics are just numbers.

for instance, if 1 million foreigners, due to business trip and another million are married to locals, one department could "juggle" and say, "there are 2 million foreigners . then when the info gets passed down 2 another department, maybe some wisebguy will change it to therE r 2 million tourists

and do they have more rights than the Malaysians who have been here before them?

anyway after our minister accuse women from Indonesia as liars...not sure how many may have been changed they plans cos of him. Minister of Tourism is suppose to encourage people to come to Malaysia. But seems he is doing otherwise....great job Mr.Minister...BN Boleh!!! So don't expect much but year end stats will show that he has done his job as it will show an increase in tourist numbers.

Err buddies...from the feedbacks Orchi received from friends in the retail outlets of major shopping complexes...Cetral Market n Petaling Street in around Kuala Lumpur...they have experienced a noticeable drop in tourist numbers visiting those areas...

Is there anyone working in the hotel industry...who might be able to inform whether or not...the hotel rooms occupancy rate has been dropping or increasing since early this year...as compared with the previous years...?

    What's happening?

Does anyone know why has Malaysia been falling short so far of receiving the expected numbers of tourists arrivals which was targeted to be 2 millions tourists monthly...or 25 millions for 2007...by the Tourism Ministry?

What happened to those millions of tourists who likes to escape their cold or harsh winters in their respective countries annually...to travel to tropical sunshine Malaysia...n where have they gone to instead...?

malaysia forget abt competition from other more attractive countries, we are flogging an old horse - what do we have to offer??
tourist money are very fluid and moves, we need to catch the wave with new attractions and continue to reinvent oneself to remain competitive.
example, singapore - try to get a hotel room now, you most likely be shock with the occupancy levels.

wait till singapore get F1, we will be in for more shocks, believe me!!

of course thailand n sg sucks tourist away...msia is simply too freaking hard to have a good time!!!

see, talk about attractions first...lets start with natural resourses. thailand have some many beautiful islands n the forest areas along mekong is FANSTATIC...msian island are good as well but simply not good enough (feels like rubbish bin the last time i visited perhentian...my aust friends were freaking dissapointed)
shopping:starhill vs.orchard road?erm noneed me to explain bu i know which country have better shopping facilities

laws:its impossible to have a decent night life here...espeacially with the gov not willing to let lose of the current night life laws...bars closed around 12am unless u have special license?come on gimme a break!!!
sg has geylang...tahiland has..erm...thailand...msia?got but u'll get busted 1out of 2 times if u go find red light district stuff...really tourists like this kinda stuff and it IS a proven tourist attraction...

more n more n more n more...rather talk than write...

the best is whats on the papers this morning...national museum closed down for renovation until almost the end of 2007???and its the 1st time the museum had a reno in 45 years..45!!!y must waited till visit msia 2007???no one needs a phD in history to know NOT to close down the museum during 2007!!!

really...msia is one of the nest places in the world...but everyone needs to make more effort to attract more tourist!!!yes that means the gov...tourism board...private businesses...thieves(wait till after 2007 then go rob overseas tourists la)...and YOU!!!

yes. the keyword here is attraction. if there is no attraction, then there will be no generation of tourist. Of course some spots like beaches, are okay. But the cleanliness need to be upkept. not to see rubbish floating while one is scuba diving or swimming.

I think more money spend on keeping the beaches clean and perserving them is better than spending the money on some automated toilet.

and yes it is ironic that during the year 2007 that the National Museum is closed for renovation. If it were a small fry museum, then it's still ok. But it's the NATIONAL museum which represents "Malaysia". I wonder who on earth suggested closing it for renovation!
