    Smile Hotel suggestion for Langkawi

I will be going to Langkawi next week. Any suggestions for a good hotel. Budget RM 200-300 plus minus. I know that Malaysian Airline crew gets good rates for hotels. Which hotels in Langkawi give good deduction for MH staff. Thanks for your help.

Th Andaman or the The Datai.

The Datai is really more x. But off peak season they do have some pretty good rates.

Please note 5 star prices applies.

First off my head - Holiday Villa at Pantai Tengah. MH used to put their crew there before they discontinued the LHR-LGK direct flights. Location is ace if you do not intend to hire a car.

Holiday Villa is M$200 plus on normal days for us ground-mortals.

That is a good rate, especially for a deluxe.

If you prefer not to eat in the hotel at nite, there's this place directly across the road from HV called "Cactus". Reasonably priced nosh and run by a Penang-nite. It was very popular with the MH crew who were on the LHR-LGK stopovers. Walkable to plenty of other eateries too.

Thanks again Geordie. Air crew knows the best and value-for-money place to eat and shop. Are you not flying anymore since you call yourself 'ground mortal'?

Never been a cabin nor deck crew. Don't envy them either.

Advice: Email the hotel that you are interested in staying, tell them your intention to stay at their hotel AND ASK for rebates or available DISCOUNTS. Usually they would... And if you are an airline/ship crew or a staff in the hospitality/travel industry with a VALID ID, they would normally give you a darn good discount...

Don't have an ID?... beg, borrow or steal one... just for the holidays

Just came back from Langkaw couple of days ago. Stayed at Holliday Villa for a week. Deluxe room Rm 190 nett plus two breakfast (must produce crew id). The hotel grounds are pretty nice plus a nice pool. But, for a 4 star rating, the room needs serious refurbishment. Bedroom furniture old. Doors so thin i could hear the telephone ring and catch snatches of their conversation next room.(connecting room separated by two doors) Aircond spewing out unhealthy air. The room had a distinct musty smelll. Bathroom full of fungus in between tiles, plaster ceiling mouldy, toilet bowl yucky. Showers with very good water pressure though. But the beach was clean, enough deck chairs and staff was friendly. I guess that made up for the room.
Geordie, you are right. Cactus's fare are reasonable. Eg Rm 5 for a plain fried rice. Seafood spaghetti about Rm 15. Fried kangkung with prawns Rm 7 ( comes wth rice). Juices only Rm3. So a highly recommendable place for local n western fare.
