    Cat infested with mites

We have a stray cat which visits us regularly. Lately it has been scratching alot and patches of hair near his neck have fallen off.

On close inspection, I notice lotsa tiny white mites on him.

Is there any home remedies I can apply on this fellow to elevate his suffering? Tried to bathe him but he ran away.

Umadavid, you are a very kind person. If you're in USJ and are willing to an extra mile, please call the vet at 03-56377026 to seek his advice on how to treat the cat, most probably you would have to bring the cat over to the clinic (or any other clinic) for inspection. Or else, I think Frontline has a range for cats and it is a good mite control product. This I believe you can purchase from any pet stores.

Thanks, mon for your kind words and ideas. Will look up the pet shops discretely as hubby don't like stray cat/animals coming to the house (definately not an animal lover ). Poor cat is quite distressed.

Don't mention uma. Cat is very lucky to have found a friend in you. :P

Have checked it out at the pet store for you. The Frontline spray for cats comes in 2 sizes, I think if you could not get near to the cat, get the smaller bottle and try your utmost best to spray it on the cat on her next visit and see how it goes from there. You most probably have to run after the fella or get her a big fish. :P

The shop is selling it for about 30+. Good luck! :)

Thanks a heap. Will try and get it this weekend when we go out. I'm sure my girls and I can hold him down so that he can be well sprayed He is always on his guard and very jumpy due to being chased away very often I guess.

Ok, will keep you updated on Fatty boy (due to the fact that he eats at my neighbours' place as well as who knows where?) though he is not really that fat

    hai uma david!
i have some tips for u for this mites problem.
first of all there are many anti mites gel to apply/insert in cats' ear.(this is
for every 2-3 months once).secound is the daily care that u must do.
for instance---1).bathing for every 2-3 days once
2).medicated wash --to clean around the ear area(this is very
important because to prevent the mites to come out and makes the cat all
    the ithiciness and the scratching.
3).some gel to clean deep inside the cats' ear.
ALL THIS WILL EVENTUALLY REDUCE THE INABILITY FOR THE MITES TO MULTIPLY(inside and outside of the ear).

since u mentioned it is a stray cat,it will defficult to contrul the mites invasion in the ear.all the above only works well for house pets.

Thanks for all your suggestions...and yeah since he is stray cat No. 1 is definitely out. He does not like sprays so this gel idea may work. Meantime, I got ideas from the NET, one of them is putting a few drops of vinegar in his drinking water...seems to work.

To keep him mite free might be impossible as he is a stray but the best I can do for him is to reduce his misery
