yes. the blood exchange method works in most hospitals.
basically they are replacing whatever quantity of blood that was used up by the patient and the patient needs to get people to "refill" the blood.

i thought the teacher's surgery is over? why is this thread still stickied?
anyway, just want to inform the forumers that there is a blood donation drive tomorrow at summit, near the black canyon coffee, from 10am to 4pm.
remember, if you want to donate blood (for first timers), eat breakfast before you go, and must weigh more than 50kgs, and slept more than 5 hours the night before.
anymore blood donation activities?
food food food
James, if you are really interested in donating blood, just go donate.Originally Posted by doggyjames

Usually when I see someone in need of blood posted here, then I would go. Well, of course I cannot donate after 3 months or so.
Anyways, I despise Pantai Medical Centre cause I was in UK when the Mad Cow Disease occurred. I told them I was there during that period and due to this answer, I was not able to donate!
So far I have donated in SJMC and UM
err.. hhtee, u ere in england during the mad cow too ah? me too lah, i can't go to gov hos to donate also, only in private, when i ask why, they say gov hos vely slow in understanding that if u don't get mad in a few yrs time, then u won't get mad cow.
err..doggy, try not to donate all over the place, stick to the closest hospital (i.e the one you will go to when emergency), if u get complication like ur hand bengkak after donating, they will treat u for free n aso they give out free blood test every year if ur a regular.![]()

is that true with sjmc? do both private & public hospitals have blood donations as their only source of getting blood?Originally Posted by chsum
does anyone know the procedure to donating blood in sjmc? like what day/time, any conditions (other than the usual conditions prior to donating blood), etc?
err.. it's true for sjmc, bcos i m a regular there, they open 8.30am to 5pm mon - fri, 8.30am to 12pm sat i think (never go on sat as too crowded), they screen ur blood first when u first donate to determine the blood type n suitability (i.e can tahan or not, u junkie etc..) then they give u a booklet to register ur donation.does anyone know the procedure to donating blood in sjmc? like what day/time, any conditions (other than the usual conditions prior to donating blood), etc?

if private hospital get free blood, but they charge so much for their treatment etc, compared to public hospital, isn't it better to donate to public hospital then? i mean, it sounds like the private hospital untung - they charge so much for treatment, and then get free blood from the public... but i must say that i don't know much about blood donation and the system, if there is one.
thanks for the info.
aiyaa..u try go there n wait for few hours for a bed to donate, then u know lah, no other patients there, only blood donator, most ppl go there on sat to donate as no need to take leave mah.crowded? so many people donate blood ke? or have to wait along with the other patients seeking treatment?![]()

pucman. please go and donate your blood. Just mention jianwei85's father's name. Let the Hospital sort out the blood.Originally Posted by pucman
I think I mentioned this before.
1. Patient requires blood type X
2. You have blood type Y
3. You go and donate your blood.
4. The hospital have some sort of exchange system i.e. if loads of people donate for the patient, maybe they will exchange with other hospital. I am not sure.
Anyways, that's how I see SJMC. I have donated in SJMC and I can specify the names to whom I wanna donate to.
Jianwei85, could you please also let us know if I am correct i.e. if anybody of any blood type can donate?
did you read about the traffic jam in University Malaya's parking ? Some wrote to the Letter to the Editor complaining about the jam. I donated there once and I was caught in the jam.Originally Posted by pucman
Also, the nurse didn't tell me that I would get free parking. I have to ask.
I mean, if I am going there to donate, at least tell me lah the good things. Maybe that's why many people don't like to donate there.
jianwei, i'd go on monday prob afternoon to donate my blood. mine is type A something.. v'd pray for ur father. pls dun over-worry ok. take care. God bless..Originally Posted by jianwei85

I have donated 8 times in University malaya. There are quite a number of donors there during daytime.Originally Posted by hhtee
And I park my car opposite and walk quite a distance.
The nurses there work like those govt civil servants with don't care attitude.
Maybe I should switch to SJMC . What 'good things' can they give ? Do they have free parking and free cakes/iron tablets after donation ?![]()
