Thumbs up Tony Fernandes' next ventures: no-frills hotels, insurance

Aiseh, this Tony F one kind, ah! Cannot sit quiet, leh.

    See what he is doing:

    > Tune Money.Com (owned by his Tune Ventures) has signed a tech partnership agreement with LogicaCMG of the UK to develop a financial services Web portal. The portal will offer competitively-priced no-frills financial products, initially in Msia, and later in Indonesia and Thailand. Tune Money will focus on markets not tapped by banks and insurers. It is claimed, that depending on the product, buying online direct could result in savings of 30-75%. And 6 out of 10 Msians have not bought an insurance policy.

    > this Friday, according to a report in the Spore Business Times, Tune Hotels will be unveiled. It will provide clean no-frills budget accomodation. Simple but clean rooms with an en-suite bathroom, according to the report, would cost an average of RM55 per night. Tune Hotels is understood to have several hotels, including one in Jln Sultan Ismail near the Twin Towers.

Tony F said, according to the report, that having made money from AirAsia, he would like to help other budding entrepreneurs and leave them to take new ventures to the next level. But his focus will remain on AirAsia, "his baby".

    Way to go, Tony!

Tying the no frills brand to offering financial products is a good move...especially offering insurance.

I always find the Air asia website booking user friendly and simple, unlike MAS which is cluttered and messy.

Tony is a REAL example of Msia boleh.

No, lah - all of Tony's bumi partners work damn hard for their money. No easy come, easy go.

And there ain't no such thing as a "no-frills hospital". Who's going to pay for all the expensive specialists. equipment and computer systems?

Of course, the govt could always stick a person fresh out of "no name" medical school in a pondok somewhere and get him/her to dispense Panadol. That's no frills!

    "no-frills hospital"??

Good idea, did Tony F joint usj forum? Hope that he got time to encounter our friend's wish and make our dream comes true. But will he be the Malaysian's "Bill Gates"?? Do charity works after getting rich?

However, Syabas to Tony being a TRUE Malaysian entrepreneur who is keep on moving forward, not like some others "Bug"s who become rich due to some Xclusive RIGHTs yet run the business half way dying!

Makes me wonder if Tony is the Steve Job of Malaysia.

I think that he's more like following in the footsteps of Richard Branson! Which is to franchise the AirAsia name to selected ventures.

Tony has morphed into a Venture Capitalist!

I'm more dubious about this. Sure, his idol is Sir 'Dickie' Branson, and sure Dickie has successfully diversified. But some people have been even more successful not diversifying far from their core business, like Ivar Kamprad, the IK in IKEA. I'd think no-frills hotels might be a natural extension to AA, but insurance? Hardly.
    See you...

That would be a different ball game altogether. PUBLIC transport where he would get more interference from the govt officials. He is only as good as the team he can be allowed to put together.
