    Streamyx Installation on Win 98

Hi .. my computer is a bit old, using Window 98. I tried to install Streamyx via its Installation CD & I have failed with " Protocol Not Installed " remark. The connections are all okay, ie. from the telecom line to the splitter, to the modem & direct to the PC via network card.

Any one can advise me on this meaning, please.
Note: I dun have much knowledge on computer

Why not access the router directly using the browser , IE , Firefoxes , Netscape or others. After you have set the network card correctly , just type the ip address of the router and you'll get a response from it. The router address should be available from the manual. Get into the router using default user n password and tinker from there.

Look at the connection status , username n password of your streamyx account n go on. Sounds easy ...right..??

The protocol not install may be refering to the TCPIP protocol for the network card.

You need to go into Network connections and then 'add protocol' > tcp/ip. The router cannot be accessed if tcp/ip protocol is not installed. Once installed you will then have to install your network card > router/modem.

First of all ....install the driver for your network card.
Then....from the start button , run your mouse to settings ..
.....go into control panel and doubleclick on the 'Network' icon...
.....if you have install the network card driver , you would have a TCP/IP Ethernet setting listed for the respective adapter..
.....click on the TCP/IP for the respective ethernet adapter..
    .......click on 'properties'..
........enable the 'Obtain an IP address automatically' by ticking on the box..

If you're able to get into the above you should be able to install the streamyx connection from the cd. Alternatively you can access the router through the browser.

You can also check using the Device manager to see if it has a network adapter installed n working...

I don't think it will work with Win 9x. I tried several machines running Win 98 and Win Me and it failed miserably. When I put Win XP and tried again, voila... works like a champ.
I think it has got to do with TM where they put in the latest drivers which is not supported on Win 98.

I do not use the TM provided installation as well while running on win98. It may have some quirks on win98 which I'm not aware.

Just set the parameters correctly and connect or disconnect by directly accessing the router from the internet browser. eg. if you type 10.0.0.2 address with a astech dsl3100r router you would get a response from the router requesting for username n password.

I presume other brand of router would have their unique IP addresses to work that way.

I am still unable to install it.

The caption 'Connectivity Network Fail' & their Customer Care Line Officer suspected that either the splitter / filter is faulty, or perhaps the line is not stable. They have lodged a report for me.

What a 'wonder-fool' week. Have to send the PC to put in the Network card, re-format the whole PC (due to window's problem) & some small repairs here & there ..... And I am still no where

Alamak !!! a bit technical la your questions for me. Anyway, I will try to answer which ever possible.

I am using the blue color modem supplied by TM Streamyx, connecting straight to the my 'old' PC via the ethernet hole (bigger size than the telephone socket).

Managed to set in the TCP/IP, but still having this problem. The orange light (for the link) indicator is blinking slowly & steadily

Hmmmm.....If you take a look at the model type which is likely at the bottom of the unit you should be able to see it.
As for the link led blink , it is a bit difficult to acertain yet as different manufacturer may indicate slightly different. Read the manual may help.

Also try this , assuming it is the same model of tmnet router that I've seen..
..from your internet explorer , at the address ,type in 192.168.1.1
If you get a response from the streamyx router....then the settings is ok all the way good till the router.
Next would be the link from the router to tmnet's server which if you log in into the router you should be able to see the connection status.
