MALACCA: Wednesday was a day when children were celebrated, but at the SK Infant Jesus Convent (I) it turned into a nightmare for about 120 pupils.

Amid class parties and celebrations to usher Children’s Day, pupils from nine classes of Primary Four, Five and Six were instructed to gather at the school hall.

They were told about the sanitary pad and the culprit was advised to step forward.

"However, no one came forward. The teachers then paraded the students into the washroom and asked those wearing skirts to lift them up while those in jeans to unzip," said one pupil.

"I cried during the incident... it was embarrassing," said another pupil.

If I am one of the parents, I will take a used sanitary pad and shaft it into the mouth of the disciplinary teacher and her assistant as well. Where did they learn this kind of punishment from? Why can't they just educate the youngs girls many of whom may be menstruating for the first time. Think of those girls who have no mothers or older sisters to share the intimacy with. These girls have no one to turn to. Arrrghh ... I better stop talking about it. If it is in Subang Jaya, you bet I will be heading for the school now. I am really mad. Why? I have a 13 year old daughter who have just experienced her first.

Well PCYeoh, I can understand why you're mad about the whole issue. I am just as mad with the unprofessional immature way the teachers go about doing this. I am not even sure now if the teachers in the schools are really up to what they are paid to do. I suppose we should blame it on the whole system failure. What are we parents to do if we get this kind of worrisome incidents repeatedly at schools....

Some girls are known to menstruate as early as 9 or 10. What happened is really disturbing. These teachers should be sent back to school or institutionalized. They are in no way capable of handling the future of this country, our children! If this had happened in Subang, I guess the whole of Subang Jaya would be there!

Seems like a distant memory when eons ago, mission schools were run by Brothers and Sisters. !!

what are the legal issues involved in this case? i am sure that something can be done. such atrocious act cannot be left alone. disciplinary or not.....lifting the skirt and the public display of privates esp of KIDS is disturbing. one has to wonder if there was any other intention behind the act. i may not have a child but i sure as hell am not keeping quiet and doing nothing about it. these people have to be punished

Speaking from personal experience, a similiar case like this happened when I was in primary school as well.

The toilets and the flushes were all filled with used sanitary pads, and the school spent a fortune on the plumbing that followed due to the blocked toilets and all...

So the teacher came and asked all those whom were having their menses to step forward (to receive a whole load of lecture lah), and when there were only a handful up there, the teachers resorted to going around and groping each student's ass to feel for the sanitary napkin. And it's not done merely once, but like a couple of times by different teachers.

A few of the prefects were also roped in to do this to their fellow students.

While most of us cried foul, there wasn't much that we could've done cos they made it like as if it was all our fault for menstruating. And our parents will laugh at us if we told them something like this happened. Means that we cannot maintain our own hygiene. So most of us kept mum about it.

Damn...now, 10 years later, I still can remember this incident clearly in my head.

Talk about being traumatised.

Seriously, the school authorities need to screw their heads on right first before going around groping each student's ass or asking them to strip to prove what only what they want to see for themselves.

Uhm, they were marched into the washroom.

In any case, this is a very common scene in primary school when girls starts menstruating. What the teachers have done was 'cruel', but any suggestions on how to tackle these kinda situation in the future? Maybe we should start by saying 'having menstruation is a gift, a blessing, not a shame' to the gals.
