I know it's been umpteen years before there has been a major exercise to upgrade existing pipes and rectify problems of water loss so I wouldn't mind paying that extra IF pipe water smells, looks and taste like fresh water... preferably as soon as possible!

It's better to be poor than to be rich. The rich always have to fear becoming poor, but the poor never have to fear becoming rich.

I too don't mind paying for the new rates even if they don't change anything. At least I am assured of the continual supply of this precious water. If not, then brace yourself to suffer when disruption occurs like the diesel and the sugar crisis. Frankly speaking our rates are one of the cheapest in the world. And the average water bill of a typical home consumer is hardly RM 12 - RM 15 per month - less than the price of 3 pkt of cigarette or two cinema tickets. So the 15% increase is no issue.

According to malaysia-today's article, the rise is partly ot help water conservation. I have to agree with it. Many of KL's people took water resource for granted as it is so cheap, where in fact it is one of the most precious resource we could ask for.

Yes, I believe consumers will not complain, if the hike is justifiable and provided (operative word) the water is clean and NOT THE MUDDY AND SMELLY STUFF WE ARE GETTING SEKARANG!

Well the hike is still manageable for the families but there is always this tendency for firms to hike up prices. You may end up paying more for car washes. I would suggest that we all wash our own cars and get some exercise

That's what I have been doing all along. Good exercise, certainly. For some, it can be a chance to show off one's "washboard" stomach, too.

Unfair for Syabas to shift debt burden to public

THE recent decision to increase water tariffs in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur is not happy news for consumers in the Klang Valley, said Malaysia Nanban in its editorial.

“The living cost is high in the Klang Valley. This year, petrol prices and electricity tariffs were increased. With the water tariffs increasing, consumers are burdened with more financial woes,” the paper said.

It is because the government think that the citizens are going to vote them in every election , that is why they are so 'blatant'. And the opposition is weak because the government got more than 95% of the seats.

Just before the next election, they will throw some goodies (like salary rise for government servants) and the people will forget again.

I won't...the oil impact is like huge. If its 10cent i can forget. But 30cent i will never forget. When they rise the oil price they give reason must follow WORLD MARKET VALUE. Now when the WORLD MARKET price drop they say ...CANNOT REDUCE. You all see lar..whatever they wants they just take from us. They say rakyat don't understand. I say they say us foolish..thats for sure.

    City area: 1 seat = 100+K voters
    Kampung area: 1 seat = 20K voters

so 1 angry city voter = 1/100 000 seat whereas 1 angry kampung voter = 1/20000 seat. Thats the maths. Anyway I think they figured out that more city folks are likely to vote against BN.
