Any Isaac Asimov fans out there? Am looking for the Galactic Empires series. It's out of print and not available in any second hand bookshops. The titles are as follows:
- The Stars, Like Dust
- The Currents of Space
- Pebble in the Sky
If you don't mind paying more, you could try amazon.com. I bought most of mine while in the states. It was much easier to find. I believe they're republishing the more popular ones like the Foundation series. Not sure when they'll come around the the rest.
Ahhh... the Foundation series - that was the series I read when I was in the 6th Form ages ago. That was my first serious Asimov (I still have the paperbacks) - before that I caught at least one of his short stories in an "Anthology of Science Fiction" ... if that book is available, go get it because that collection is priceless (note that that is a collection of stories from a number of SciFi writers, not just Asimov). That was where I read "Flowers for Algernon", a classic !!
Like Jayan said, Asimov is actually outdated. He wrote his SciFi in the 50's ad 60's. Hence you can see how 'backward' the scifi could be without all the current nano-technology and computers.
Ahhh.... regardless of the outdated technologies, it's the concepts that are interesting. Plus, several individual series that are able to be joined into one universe... that's the mastery of Asimov as a writer.
