    Sarawak Laksa recommendation anyone?

I have a craving for Sarawak Laksa (not penang laksa or malay laksa or any other type, it's got to be Sarawak style) and won't be in Kuching for some months. Can anyone recommend a place in SJ or USJ? Preferably one without MSG!
    Thanks,
    Ellen

Hi Ellen. I believe this thread should be posted in cari makan. Anyway, I have tried one Auntie Jong's Sarawak Laksa some time ago at Lucky Garden, Bangsar. For more info and other shops for Sarawak Laksa, read this thread by Simon Tan.

Try the one served by the Sarawak Mee stall in the Coffee Shop near the Balai Polis Bandar Sunway.

2 for the price of 1 (Sarawak Mee and Kuching Laksa)

Well....if you are looking for no MSG ... it would be like mission impossible nowadays in hawker food. Anyway...you can try the Shack noodle house (I think).. in Sunway Pyramid food arena...they sells variety of laksa...from Penang to Sarawak...I heard my wife commented no bad.

Besides the one in Lucky Garden, there is also one available in Restoran Gembira, Taman Megah. They serve Sarawak Laksa or what they call Kuching Laksa with yummy sambal belacan dip. You can taste the toasted belacan in this dip. The Laksa is pretty okay but not as nicely presented like the Bangsar one. I also like their Sarawak Noodles - i.e. hand made frizzy noodles tossed in lard, minced meat and wafer thin char siu slices.

I vote for the one sold in Lucky Garden. Please give it a try eventhough it cannot match those in Kuching and Sibu.

Didn't realise we had a food thread here, and now I've found it, I'm constantly starving :-) Will try the Lucky Garden place, and have a tip for one near the Pyramid I'll try next. Thank you very much!

If you are not muslim, you can try the non-halal sarawak laksa at PJ, SS24, opposite Ming Tien food court, next to chinese medical hall. There is a stall selling Sarawakian Hand Noodle and Sarawakian Laksa....taste not bad.... but b'coz of the santan, cannot eat too frequently.

never ever try the so called sarawak laksa at the Laksa Shack!!
They are a disgrace to authentic sarawak laksa!
their version of Sarawak laksa is heavily localised, and not even close to 1% of the original!
If you want original, try the one in Bangsar Happy Garden, Sunway Ming Tien or Pandan Indah (can't remember where is it)

Heh..heh... thanks GreyShadow for highlighting this... I am a person who dislike Laksa most...just heard my wife said the taste not bad (I think b'coz she never really tried the authentic Sarawak Laksa before)....

Anyone can verify what GreyShadow commented? I mean I am disagree with him/her, just different people will have different taste butts.

Greyshadow is right, Laksa Shank knows nothing about Sarawak laksa. In fact it's very hard to find a very similar one to that of the authentic Sarawak Laksa. So far the one at Bangsa is the west on this part of Malaysia...I think that kopithiam is called `Lum Chuan' or something like that

I agree with Mon best so far..corner kopitiam shop at Lucky Garden but still prefer our local brew anytime hot and spicy. Sarawak laksa like Katong laksa is bland.

I'm a local Sarawakian Kuching boy growing up eating Sarawak Laksa & Kolo mee.
Trust me, Laksa Shack's Sarawak laksa is no where near the original, not even 1%

I wonder if I can start a law suit to prevent them from selling the FAKE sarawak laksa, it's giving the REAL sarawak laksa a bad name

I had tried Laksa Shack's Sarawak laksa about a year back and I agree with GreyShadow that their Sarawak laksa is totally different. It taste more like the curry laksa and there is no Sarawak laksa smell or taste in it.

Meanwhile, here is another place (selling Sarawak Laksa) which was mentioned in another forum. Visit their website below (check out under their specialties) : -

I have not tried them yet but they seem to specialise in Sarawak Food. Has anyone tried them?

Tried Aunty Jong's kuching laksa in Lucky garden (round corner from Hong Leong Bank) and it was lovely! Spicy, limey, and gret gravy. Thanks for the tip! BTW, she's closed from 12 to 20 October.
    Cheers,
    Ellen
