    Quick 1 stop meals....

Just for Honeybee and Brownsugar...Post all your 1 stop quick meals here. It may help many of us working ppl.

Back then 16 years ago, Firefly was in the same delima. How does 1 cook for only 2 person. And also time was a constrain. As mentioned in another thread, getting home late, traffic jams and planning for only 2. How?

Firefly resorted to 1 pot meals , slow cooker food and pre-cook. What about you? Let firefly dig his brains for them old old recipie. Now with a family of 5, a 1 pot meal don't seems to work.

    So go ahead..Start posting.

As long as you change somethings along the way, then it's your own original. Don't copy word for word. Firefly is sure you don't follow it down to the last dot or dash mah.

    Brownsugar,
If you are freezing cooked food, it's best if the food has lots of gravy like stews or curries. They won't taste dry when you reheat later. Try not to store it in the freezer for too long. Maximum 2 weeks is best, otherwise you get that freezerburn taste.

Back when firefly was still a batchlor, mooncakes was one of the favourate foods of firefly. Firefly used to hoard mooncakes to be laten eaten through out the year. same was with them glutinous rice dumplings..

No freezer burn when heated properly

    Tips for Storing Cooked Food

For me, I've tried freezing "ju hu char" and glutinous rice dumplings (bak chang). I also always keep a loaf of bread in the freezer for emergencies.. . Can keep for months and no freezer burn too when heated up. Will try to freeze stews and curries now.

Also, I realise that cooking rice for 2 persons everyday can be quite troublesome (small quantity) and takes up time too. Now, instead of cooking rice for only 1 or 2 meals, I cook in bulk (for a week's meals). Cooked rice keeps well in the fridge for quite a while, and I heat up enough amount daily using the microwave. Just remember... DO NOT cover up the rice when storing in fridge to prevent moisture (nanti nasi berkulat! ) Don't panic when you see the rice drying up, just take out the amount you require for the meal and add water before heating it up.

BTW, I read from somewhere that to freeze foods, it is best to cool them down quickly to prevent contamination. So, I usually put my foods into the fridge or freezer ASAP.

Bee, try to get a 1.0 litre rice cooker.. fresh cook rice taste nicer.. maybe u can cook 2 days consumption at once.. But when my hubby around, I will cook fresh.. I usually cook slightly less than 1 cup each time.. The 1 litre rice cooker is just nice.. And it is quite fast..

Hi Brownsugar. Thanks for the suggestion. I hv a 1litre rice cooker. But I prefer to use the microwave to cook. Also, no taste difference (to me lar!) in rice whether freshly cooked or otherwise. I get back home late after work, and heating up rice with the microwave takes only a few minutes. If cooking fresh, need to spend time to wash rice and cook it. Hubby and I don't want to eat dinner too late, that's why opt for this method.

Well...some people are claiming that microwave cooking increases the chance of getting cancer....I dunno how true this is.. but I think nowadays microwave is not so popular as it was before...
