An AWACS flew over Subang this morning

I was getting into my car around 8am this morning when I heard loud aeroplane sound. Its been a while since I hear one, so I look up. However, I was surprised when I saw a big aeroplane with a disc on top... OMG! Its an AWACS... seeing many of them when I was living near a MCAS (Marine Corp Air Station) in the states, these were usual sights... but here in Subang... For those who dont know what an AWACS is .... Picture from wikipedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:A...try.750pix.jpg
See what it can do - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AWACS

They have high tech electronics for early warning and for snooping. Dont know how much information they had gathered passing over Subang, Puchong, Putrajaya, Cyberjaya, PJ.. and where it passed.

Have never heard Malaysia bought any... so its must be US of A's or their allies... What is it doing here?

I let the military buff and experts to comment more

Since you obviously were able to detect it, perhaps you own an AWACS too?
    See you...

Hmm...let's recap which air forces in the region use AWACS aircraft. As far as I know, only the RSAF (Spore Air Force) has AWACS aircraft (besides F-16 fighter jets, Apache attack helicopters and a whole lot of other stuff) in the region.

Then there is the Aussie Air Force and, of course, the US Air Force and Navy.

The most logical explanation, if indeed there was an AWACS aircraft flying over Subang, is that there must be a FPDA exercise going on, involving Msia, Spore, Australia, New Zealand and Britain.

The other possibility is that a US AWACS aircraft is passing through Msian airspace to another country, maybe Japan or Spore.

Of course, the RMAF would be red-faced with embarrassment if a foreign AWACS aircraft was present in Msian airspace and they didn't know about it!

Could be from S'pore as the IMF starts today in S'pore... But why fly over here? Maybe to "detect" all those activists that may be coming from M'sia?

Also without M'sia's permission, it's an act of war! Well have to wait if our gahmen got anything to say...
What you have to do and the way you have to do it is incredibly simple.
Whether you are willing to do it, that's another matter.

Yes, I saw it too during my morning work-out at the USJ4 field. Was a bit surprised to see an AWAC ( knew what it was but this is the first time seeing it) and was thinking maybe we bought one. Seems it came from the north-east and made a circle and flew on a north westerly direction. Or maybe I was wrong, maybe it just took off from Subang as it was flying quite low, possibly less than 1000m altitude.

I dunno much about planes, but based on the pic in the wiki site, the loud plane i saw wasn't like the one in the pic..

the loud plane that I saw has 2 engines on the tail part only, and have a very long and narrow body and wings... didn't notice any disc on top as well...
i was on federal highway stuck in the jam when i saw it at about 8:05am...

    perhaps there was 2 planes?

There was an awacs plane flying over Subang at 8 am. It took off from the Subang Airport and flew nice and low over SS15, heading south towards Summit.

Another plane flew over at about 8:10-8:15 am, (also very low) but I was in my classroom already so I did not see it...but oh, I felt it

IIRC, the news recently mentioned that the 5 party defence agreement countries (Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Australia, and the UK) were having a joint exercise in the Straits of Malaaca.

If there was no a cooperative military exercise going on, then it could be that the plane was having an MRO (Maintenance, Refurbishment, Overhall, I think) operation at Subang Airport.

Eeerr, not Indonesia. It's Brunei. The FPDA is a Commonwealth thing, originally conceived to protect Brunei, Malaysia and Singapore against, most importantly, Indonesia.

I think before you guys spotted the AWACS, I saw an Air Force refuelling plane with its refueller tail extended, heading towards Subang Airport direction. Most probably, you all are right that there's mebbe an FPDA exercise going on...

Are you sure? The only country in FPDA that has air refuelling capability is the UK. And they use other aircrafts, the VC10 and Tristar, not the American one. So it cannot be the picture you show.
