I assume its the location for most customers choice, many woudnt want to go to Tesco if they stay next to Giant inspite of its negative outlook. But those living close to Giant will have a choice soon. Lucky me I stay close to Carrefour.

Mydin will have a soft opening on 18th August 2006 (even non Chinese knows how to pick an auspicious day!!) where only specially invited guests including yours trully will be taken on a tour of the new hypermarket which is 100% Malaysian owned. It is said that the new Mydin would be the largest hypermarket in Malaysia occupying a total built up area of 560,000 sq ft in a four storey commercial centre. The hypermarket complex will be officially opened by its Executive Chairman, Tuan Mydin Mohamed bin Gulam Hussain. So far there is no date given when its doors will be thrown open to the public. I wonder whether there will be a 42 inch plasma TV given to the first customer to step into the hypermarket.

Soft launch? Will their tenants be opening as well or only Mydin? IF only Mydin then nothing much to look see. Unless their tenant also open then would be great'lah. Like shoppin' complex only.

Same feeling here and have officially boycotted Giant since last week experience where they advertise for cheap diapers. Got there and none was available. Asked the staff and was told that their distributor have not sent it to them yet and ask me to check back later as they also don't know when it will arrive.

This is not the first time and the price discrepancy between what they advertise and being scanned at the counter differ...if you don't check, you will be paying for the higher price.

Carrefour for me and also Jusco...will definitely consider Mydin and will check out the place when it open up.

Hee.. hee... looks like Giant is seemingly declaring war by countering and attacking that auspicious day with their newly barriers to deflect Mydin's good fen shui. (may have consulted Lilian Too.. ) Let the battle begin... and hopefully we can get the opportunity watch some price wars and fireworks...

Btw PC, pls give us a report after your visit...

I experience the same problem also but it was in Carrefour. So consulted 1 of their cashier's leader .. went check the pricing and they gave the offer price. Otherwise, I would have complaint kaw kaw in public bout them.

Anyway, those special super cheap offers advertised, when you rush there is either always out of stock, goods not arrive or come back tomorrow morning for it. This doesn't only happen in Giant but also other places.

It's a trick to get you there. No doubt the price advertised do exist but the stock for that particular item is so low, within 1 hour, they should have been exhausted. Anyway, these people are banking on the fact that since you are in the premises already, you may end up buying something else even if you fail to purchase the super cheap item they had advertised. Very unethical but that's the way it is. Hence, my advice is go to the hypermarket nearest you. Can't go wrong with that!

You can say that, this is all part of their marketing gimmick. Most of the time it works for them. People are people, always eyeing for promos on cheap sale items. If you're ahead than others then you'll get what is being promoted.

Once I went to Guardian cos of their promos and its early in the morning, they say it was out of stock! Then went to another Guardian, luckily they have the stocks otherwise, I'll never trust them again.

Ooops, time now is 1.24 am. Well, yesterday (Saturday) on page 5 in the Weekend section of the Star, Mydin came up with a full page creative advertisement to announce that their doors will be opened to public a day after their soft opening and that is Saturday, 19th August 2006. Their advert says
Our neighbour is a giant and the other one is bigger

    But we are the largest.

    Who says SIZE doesn't matter?

Is this admitting/implying limited parking space in Mydin. There goes the advantage of the indoor shaded parking i was hoping for. Do they expect customers to carry their purchases back to Summit. Good that they unintentionally disclose some weakness here, if i am Mydin i will keep quiet.

"Surrounding areas" would also imply Giant's giantic parking lot. Looks like Giant may come up with some parking controls like receipts stamped 'free parking' or pay.

Probably, if we parked at Giant parking lots .. when time to come out from, need proof of purchase receipts from Giant before we can go out otherwise, pay for the parking lots.

Promotions like this advertise on newspaper are sure to warn me keep away from that place for at least a week. Esp that first 3 days. Confirm jam!

The little dwarf neighbour of mydin might just change the parking exit point to an entry point n the current entry to an exit. It may become practical if you consider that you go and pick up your car , drive to a new covered section near Guardian pharmacy , load your barang2....not under the hot sun or rain now....
    and off you go.
Take a longer walk if want to shop in mydin n park in the dwarfed place ma...
Still no need to show POP wat....

Whoever came up with the above statement didn't think deep enough. This is the public perception on the above statement.

    1. It is telling people that Mydin may be the largest hypermarket in Malaysia but they don't have enough parking space for its customer and depends on surrounding areas for parking space.

    2. You don't expect your customers to lug along their purchases to Summit which is at least half kilometre away. Also they charge RM 1 per entry on weekday and RM 2.00 on weekends and public holidays.

    3. Everybody knows where Giant is. They too have lot of parking lots and it is FREE and next door to Mydin. The fact that Mydin don't mention this is telling people they fear them as they are a competitor.

    4. Parking elsewhere is so limited and may be chargeable or restricted. When it rains, some of the areas suffer from flooding and the traffic congestion there is so dangerous for peole to walk. The roads there are so uneven. Also Subang Jaya is famous for snatch theft. At night it is too dangerous. Early last year, it was reported in the papers that one girl was even murdered in the vicinity.

There is no need for them to mention this. Let the people find their own parking space. I suggest that instead, Mydin should ensure that they assign personnel to manage the flow of traffic in their area.
