    Handphone with walkie talkie feature..

Any one out there have been using this type of handphone with built in walkie talkie function ? Just wondering if it can be use to replace the walkie talkie in some area of site work where there are no cell coverage. Of course it must be compatible models I am talking.
It's a pain carrying a walkie n a phone sometimes. The Motorola I850 is an example of this walkie phone. Claim to be able to cover 6km in walkie talkie mode.

CCY, the chauffers (they don't like to be called cab drivers) driving those white Mercedes E240 CDI taxis in Singapore all use the walkie-talkie phones. They told me they can get to each other at a range of about 8km... and can be used to make and receive calls. They use the Motorola 1850 or even the old Micro-Tac type which were converted to these walkie-talkie phones...

I think you can find loads of them here in Singapore especially at Funan Center and Sim Lim Square....

Oh CCY, the modified ones like the old Micro-Tac phones also come with headsets and you can see the managers at Shangri-la Singapore all using these phones, talking into the cordless microphones clipped to their shirt / coat collars... like Secret Service agents only lah....

Sentinel.... about this walkie mode ...is it exactly the same way like a normal walkie where you have to 'press to talk' or you just operate like a normal phone dual way conversation ono to one or one to anyone that tune in to the same channel?

How do we contact , lets say our kawan with a similar phone in walkie mode? Have to dial numbers or not?
I'm lost here but find this walkie feature very useful when travelling in a group. The best is that it's free n does not rely on any service provider coverage. Have not heard about it's usage here.
